Insider says Steelers are giving rave reviews of Arthur Smith's offense

The Steelers have had one of the worst offenses in the league over the past three years under former offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

However, Pittsburgh decided it had seen enough and parted ways with him on Nov. 21, 2023, making a coaching change mid-season for the first time since 1941.

Quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan filled in as the interim offensive coordinator for the rest of the season, but the Steelers eventually hired former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith for the full-time job this offseason.

There is much anticipation to see what Smith's new offense looks like, but The Athletic's Mark Kaboly says players have already been giving it rave reviews.

"What I hear coming out of the Steelers is that players absolutely love Arthur Smith's offense. One told me that it is unreal," Kaboly posted on platform X. "Going to be interesting to put eyes on it. First day of OTAs start on Tuesday. The Steelers will be on the field for practices for the next 4 weeks."

Many believe that Smith's offense should work in Pittsburgh. Smith has had a run-first mindset in the past, which would fit the Steelers offense well.

The team just finished rebuilding its offensive line through the 2024 NFL Draft with first-round offensive tackle Troy Fautanu and center Zach Frazier. Pittsburgh also has one of the best running back duos in the league in Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren.

There are still a lot of questions surrounding quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, who were acquired this offseason, but Smith was able to get the Tennessee Titans to the AFC Championship Game with QB Ryan Tannehill during the 2019 season.

Only time will tell if Smith's offense will be successful, but the early reviews bode well.

The Steelers will continue tooling their offense starting Tuesday when OTAs begin.
