Packers searching for answer to key question after loss to Vikings

The Green Bay Packers lost David Bakhtiari for the year and they thought former seventh-round pick, Rasheed Walker, was the best replacement option after a solid training camp and preseason.

A few weeks later, that no longer appears to be the case: The Packers benched Walker during Sunday's matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in the second quarter. Yosh Nijman came in and replaced Walker, but he eventually got hurt and Walker came in toward the end of the game. So, it's unclear as to where the team goes from here in terms of a starter (assuming Nijman is healthy enough to play, of course).

Walker was not playing well when Nijman came in. He had already allowed a sack and was flagged for a crucial ineligible receiver downfield penalty that wiped out a 20-yard completion to Romeo Doubs. Nijman allowed a crucial sack of his own later in the game when the Packers were trying to cut the Vikings' lead to one possession.

Walker's future has been in question over the last couple of weeks. Per Pro Football Focus, he allowed a team-high 13 total pressure that also include a team-high two sacks coming into the game. His run blocking has been subpar, as well.

The Packers have always stressed everything is a competition and they're always searching for the right guy(s) at all positions, especially along the offensive line. It'll be interesting to see which player gets the starting nod moving forward or if it'll be a week-to-week scenario in terms of who gets the start.

The latter situation doesn't seem ideal, as cohesiveness and chemistry are key in building good offensive lines. If the Packers rotate Walker and Nijman, that obviously delays the process. The offense already struggles enough with consistency and staying on schedule, so it wouldn't make a lot of sense to add another element related to inconsistency.

Either way, this situation is definitely something to add to the long list of things to monitor as the season progresses. The Packers need to be smart with how they handle this, because it can easily make things worse for the offense if they choose the wrong process.
