Explaining To The Non And Casual Sports Fan What It's Like To Go From Isiah Thomas To Mike D'Antoni

Despite what some of my fellow 'Barkers have written, going from Isiah Thomas to Mike D'Antoni is massive upgrade. I demonstrate this in chart form in terms that even the most casual of sports fan would understand.

Hillarious chart ... most people here don't disagree that D'antoni is a much better coach than Isiah, though. The problem is that D'antoni inherits Isiah's team. I don't think there's much anyone can do with this bunch of misfits. So why pay someone 24 million over 4 years when you have no expectations or hopes for the squad?

A little more: as a Knicks fan I would have liked to see them excercise some fiscal restraint for the first time in years. It feels like Jimmy D keeps trying to buy the fans back with a "I'll do whatever it takes to get the best product out there" but that hasn't worked. I would rather have taken a shot on a Mark Jackson type - someone who I think could relate better to the players.

I don't think the Knicks are as hopeless as they seem. Marbury, Jerome James and someone else whom I'm forgetting is coming off the books after next season. They'll be getting a top 5 or so pick in this year's draft. They just can't do something stupid like draft OJ Mayo. Plus D'Antoni is the kind of coach who will attract free agents. The money thing doesn't bother in the least, he's was in demand, and it's the biggest market in the league. If nothing else, it gives them back a little relevancy that they were missing over the last few seasons. With the east the way it is, I don't think winning 35 games and competing for the 8th playoff spot is that absurd of a notion.

2 final thoughts:
1 - I will never be fully back as a Knicks fan until Isiah is fired and no longer associated with the franchise.
2 - Why didn't we go after Bryan Collangelo HARD instead of jumping on Donny Walsh? The Pacers suck and Collangelo built the team D'antoni had so much success with then moved to Toronoto and turned a perenial loser into playoff contenders.

I'd love to get the yards thoughts on this last one.

Thoughts from a Knicks fan who never left-
1. Isiah has one of the best draft records of any executive in the league. He's worth keeping around until then. He has no authority whatsoever, no one reports to him.
2. Colangelo was under contract with the Toronto Raptors. Walsh has announced his intention to leave the Pacers and was available without compensation. Colangelo was not necessarily available and if he did decide to leave the Raptors, a team he has already built in his image, it might had taken a draft pick or a player.

i hate to say it...but you're kinda funny

;)
