Goalie fight! Patrick Roy's son

"But wait, it gets better. According to reports, the reason Jonathan was so hell-bent on getting to Nadeau was that his father Patrick, the head coach of Quebec, gave him explicit orders to pound Nadeau's head in. No one wants to disappoint their father." - Dan Zinski

Looks like this is stirring up quite a bit of controversy up in Canada, eh? I think it is great exposure for both the Roy's. Jonathan seems to be quite the tempered protege of his father Patrick. Another Roy coming to an NHL team near you soon?

Maybe he was just angry that he let in 10 goals...

LMAO bze034! Good point. That explains him giving a double handed middle finger to the crowd, more-so.

The only reason that hockey gets fans is the off chance one of these awesome fights takes place. and yes bzr fantastic comment.

I wouldn't say the ONLY reason, but if you were right, the number of new fans would be almost null in the future if the NHL keeps trying to hide it's fighting past and prevent a fighting future.

Why change the culture?

Yes Mountain, and it is unfortunate that the NHL is putting rules in place to discourage fights. But that is a whole other topic buried beneath a list of other NHL issues.

Hey bornfreeid i don't think we will be seeing Jonathan in the NHL anytime soon. He is 18, undrafted, and has a 3.96 GAA in a league that is known for producing good goalies and isn't even the number 1 guy for Quebec.

I agree, but there is one "statistic" you aren't taking into account: Politics

I have seen worse goalie's grace the ice.

I can just see the two Roys talking about times like these when they're old and gray: "Remember when you told me to bash that guy's head in, Dad?" "Ya, son, those were the good ol' days." And then they would have a good laugh about it.

I don't think they'll wait until they are gray, it was probably already had over the dinner table in the last week :)

I want to hear what mom says, lol.

To be fair, P. Roy had off days, too. Everyone does. That's why beating people up, quite handily in this case, helps make you feel better. The kid is 18, and he'll probably end up being really good, if not great. I'll be eagerly awaiting his NHL debut.

I definitely want to see his NHL debut as well. Although since you are only allowed to be a "Nancy" in the NHL now, as they greatly discourage fighting, I'm not sure how much room there are for the future "Roy's" in the NHL.

Man, that kid can throw em!!! He's got some awfully big shoes to fill though!

I think theer is a real problem here that in markets where the hockey is not getting any coverage in spite of the NCAA tournament and impending NHL post season, this has made the headlines and talking heads that hate a game they have never seen will be talking about this as if it is all there is to the game, pointing to Bertuzzi and McSorley as examples even though they are the exceptions and rare at that.

This is a real problem, and unfortunately for the NHL, they have a lot more of them. Such a great sport and they see to have no idea how to market it.

Jon Roy is a moron. He attacks a guy who doesn't want to fight, isn't defending himself. My 8 year old could beat up a guy who's not fighting back. Everybody used to think Patrick Roy had Terrets Syndrome cuz he was always swearing at his players. Turns out he was just your run of the mill A-hole.

All Roy aside, the element of big fights and brawls is trying to be squashed by the NHL anymore.

After this was posted, I found what I consider to be the last great brawl in the NHL, back in 2004 between the Flyers and Senators.

Here it is on yardbarker.com - It is only video 1 of 3, you'll have to go to the site that posted the article to see the other 2.

baz666 your the moron who cares if patrick swore at his players when he played. Almost every team has there #1 star giving crap to the rest of the team. so instead of running your mouth about him being a a-hole maybe your just not dealing with a full deck of cards in your own head
