A Misconception of Sportsmanship

The Central Washington University softball team is being credited with the greatest act of sportsmanship ever shown. They carried an injured opponent around the bases so she could complete a home run. Since when does sportsmanship include helping your opponent win? I want to set the record straight now, and remind everyone of the difference between sportsmanship and charity.

Sometimes worlds collide. Think about it this way - whether they help her around the bases or not, they are going to be on SportsCenter. The question is - how do you want to be portrayed on national TV? I think they did the right thing.

If all she did was hit a double, then I think it is fair to tag her out in the base line - but she already put the ball over the wall.
