Kelly Pavlik Defeats Jermain Taylor

If you're a fight fan and you didn't watch Pavlik/Taylor on HBO, you should be ashamed of yourself. Two undefeated fighters no more. Pavlik ate a furious combo in the second round leaving him on the canvas. It was a pounding that referees other than Steve Smoger would let end the fight. He returned to his feet with 90 seconds left in the round and surived clinching and holding. The two traded the next four rounds before Pavlik ended Taylor in the seventh with a furious combo that left the former champ slumped over in the corner. Great fight and I'd expect a rematch.

We have a new middleweight champ!

watched every round...thought it was over in the 2nd an Pavlick showed guts and a good recovery..If he wouldnt have knocked Taylor out in the 7th he woulda lost by atleast 4-5 points...Good right hand knocked taylor out...Great fight

Definitely a great fight. You think Pavlik would have lost by that wide a margin had it gone the distance? At one point, i believe early in the 7th, Lederman came in and said he had Taylor up by a point. Merchant replied that he had Pavlik up a point. I think I had Taylor by a point myself, but it was really close. After the fight, despite all of the judges having Taylor up on points, Jermain and Kelly both thought Pavlik was winning. It was really close and the tide seemed to sway each round. I didn't see Taylor starting to pull away at all. In fact, he seemed to begin struggling with technique and consistency and that second round fury seemed to be spawned by nervous energy that he no longer had.

I agree with your statment.Kelly was in fact winning the fight by me.But was made me think he woulda lost by that amount was the fact that it was a title fight and he was a challenger,All Pavlick was landing was his straight left and the fact that he got knocked down in the 2nd round.Over all it was the best fight of the year that ive caught and it was a good fight.Just glad it didnt go to the score cards because Pavlick would have lost. The judges had him down 3 at the knock down too.So there ya go.

Yeah, I hear you. All good points. I'm glad the cards didnt' decide it either.

Just now saw it. Great fight. All the official scorecards had Taylor by more than a round. That's bullshit. It was a close fight until that 7th round but Taylor by that much? Just shows how much these judges actually know.

Taylor was rushed. He didn't beat Hopkins. He'll probably get Kayoed quicker in the rematch. Another fighter ruined by greed and boxing politics. Hats off to Kelly!

I could see that ko coming , taylor didn't look like he had a chance after the 2nd round . When Kelly hit him with the great jab and over hand right at 1:03 left in the 7th round it was all over , that was there all night for Kelly .What a great fight.I don't think Taylor knew Kelly had that kind of power

I thought Taylor was ahead by the points going into the round. I wanted Pavlick to win but was once again disappointed but what seemed to be HBO favoritism again (Contract??). I was glad to see that the judges scored it the way I was seeing it and thought the commentary was unfair. The stoppage was unfortunate because smoger didn't really have a choice in my opinion. Kudos to Taylor for being a good sport and not complaining. He should have gone done like the previous poster had said or if he had gone down in the center of the ring who knows. That wasn't the first time in that fight he let himself get backed into the corner. Great fight- Good Scoring - Unfortunate ending for Taylor in the corner.

To Taylor's credit, he took the loss like a man. He left the ring quickly, but gave props to Pavlik in post fight interviews.

If Jermain Taylor, would learn to hold his hands up at all times, " like Winky Wright" he would be
unbeatable, Kelly Pavlik was hitting him with right hands all night long. (Jermain left hand is kept to
low!, to Low!, to Low!

He'd be a lot better, but the truth is that Taylor has questionable balance is going to bad at times when he's in the ring with a better technician. He's a gifted athlete, but it's not surprising Pavlik was able to get through to him the longer the fight went on.

I can't believe these people are saying Jermain took it like a man when he ran out of the ring like a big baby after coming to from getting the dog shit beat out of him. Taking it like a man would be staying in the ring as they announced the REAL CHAMPION!
