College Player of The Year race has a new leader

There are so many good college players this year but there is one player who has taken over the top spot in the National Player of The Year race...

Can you guess who it it?

HINT - The player at the top of the list is only a freshman!

I'll guess Beasley

Kevin Love over Beasley? Really?

I know. How?

I haven't seen a player like Love in a long time. He's been dominating the Pac10 since day one with his overall skills. His outlet passing from under the hoop is unreal and he seals his man better than anyone for easy baskets. If I can only choose one player - it would be Love.

Honestly, it's a four Man race to be frank. Beasley, Love, Gordon, and that other guy in Chapel Hill isn't pretty bad either. All have had slumps in at least one or two games but showed up when it counted the VERY MOST. So as of right now, without showing any bias, The race is still open till late March.

i AGREE - Tyler has been a monster for the Heels. The loss against Duke at home last night reminds me of UCLA's loss to USC at home.

UNC will bounce back.

It 's gonna be tough but i'm hoping that things will be better. Larry Drew isn't getting here fast enough, and Frankly i wish Tyreke Evans will make up his mind. Sure could use him as well.

Hansbrough is very good, but he can be outplayed by athletic forward and centers (i.e. James Gist, Trevor Booker) and he gets blocked a ton.

I think everyone agrees that Durant was the best player in college basketball last year, so it's surprising that people don't consider Beasley in the same way: Like Durant last year, he currently is the only player in the top-5 in scoring and rebounding. Neither Hansbrough nor Love show up on either short list.

STAT's are not the only thing here. If Love got the ball in the post a little more he would be scoring 10 pts more a game. If you look at the #'s - Beasley gets a lot more shot attempts compared to what Love gets.

Love is grabbing 11.5 boards a game too which should put him very close to Beasley.

This isn't about just the STAT's.

Michael Beasley get more shots, because he is by far the dominant player on his team. I'm not saying Love is bad, but you can't deny that UCLA was a Final-Four team before he set foot there. UCLA is always successful, and Love is a big part of that this year - I don't deny it.

On the other hand, Michael Beasley is playing on KANSAS STATE and with a first-year coach and he's making them relevant. I guarantee you, minus Beasley, Kansas State is insignificant, much less a ranked team.

Stats do help the cause but they are NOT everything. I feel that teams can lose on any given night whether their star player(s) show up and their game doesn't or at all due to injury. However they can play poorly and still win. This was the case with Carolina/Davidson and Memphis/UTEP . All four teams have the player(s) that can perform great or poorly, but in the end it will catch up with them. I think Memphis is playing better than anyone right now and Calapari has the team thinking that also, but i do see them as The New England Patriots NCAAB. Question is, who are the NY Giants? Their RPI is in the high 120's if i'm not mistaken, and like i said before the closest team to give CALAPARI INC a run for their money was the Miners of UTEP. I think someone is gonna play spoiler when it's all said and done. But hey, i could be wrong.

I'm going with Beasley. That guy is money.

Im tired of hearing about Kevin Love.. I hope he can go up against a true big man so he can hit that big wall of reality.. and stay another year or so.. But you never know he might make the mistake of going up against a big NBA player next year and getting plastered... Good luck to whatever he does though..

And I cant wait for Jason Thompson to go into the NBA and make a name for himself. That kid is a great player who is never talked about.. he plays for Rider and averages about 20 and 13.. 6'11.. Should be a player..

It is now a three man race! Beasley, Love, (even with the Huskies upset win) and Number 50 in Chapel Hill! Some of the Older heads compare Hansbrough's game to a Young Dave Cowens. Cowens was before my time, but I have seen Videos on him and he was phenomenal. But to get that comparison this early, May be a lot premature. Still, Tyler is a work horse and that man earns his due for 40 minutes! Love/Hate him he is one of the best in this three man race.
