Is University of Kentucky's Dynasty OVER?

The only hope for Lexington and the 2008 basketball season was on the shoulders of two high school stars. Patrick Patterson and Jay Lucas were suppose to be a lock to join the UK basketball program. Now it has been confirmed Jay Lucas is not heading to Kentucky and sources close to Patterson say that he will choose against Kentucky. What is a school to do? Wasn't Tubby Smith fired (not technically, but he was basically fired) for not being able to recruit. I don't see Gillespie bringing in any top stars this year. This doesn't end with players either, earlier in the year Kentucky had numerous coaches turn down the position at the once famed powerhouse of college basketball. Is the new basketball team in Kentucky the Cardinals who already dominate the football scene in the state. Please tell me your opinion on this matter.

The Kentucky "dynasty" ended 10 years ago. UK fans always think they are gonna make some noise every year but barely make the NCAA tournament. They are the Cubs of college basketball.

The Championships make the Cubs comparison null and void. Tubby doomed Kentucky in recruiting. Let's see what a change will bring.

tubby quit because he got tired of uk fans' psychosis. and what was that about patterson?

You are an idiot. What a negative piece of writing.

Nowadays, it's becoming staple for second-rate sports writers to try and make it big by taking shots at Kentucky. Seriously though, it's pathetic, shows their utter lack of creativity(as well as an inability to dig up the truth), and the whole "blast kentucky" trend is becoming cliche. Infact, I think I gave these people too much credit by calling them second-rate--you can read the title of their article, and know everything about the following paragraphs. Let me do you all a favor and go over each thing they attack us for, and do a bit of clarifying:

Foremost: Say hi to Patrick Patterson for us. You can find him next year in Lexington, you'll see him on national telivision alot--cause, you know, for an overrated "broken-dynasty" team, Kentucky Basketball still pulls in better ratings than any other college basketball team. Just look at the NCAA Tournament, when two of the best commentators were sent to Chicago merely because of a Kentucky - Kansas matchup.

Next: The Tubby ordeal is blown out of proportion. Tubby left on his own accord, and honestly, that proved he wasn't the best coach for the job. Instead of welcoming the pressure, and doing something to make the situation better, he quit, showing his weakness in the face of adversity.

Continuing: The coaching job wasn't offered to "numerous" coaches. It was offered to Billy Donovan. Rick Barnes publically declined it for the single reason of getting some media attention: God knows he needed it after his terrible coaching in the Texas - USC matchup.

Finally: It's funny that people think that UofL is the better team, given they've failed to beat the "struggling" Wildcats in the past three years. Further, its sad to think people are downing on Kentucky for "barely" making it into the tournament each year, when they're maintaining a pretty long streak of consecutive appearances--when was the last time we were put out in round 1?

In conclusion, it's become blatantly obvious that the only thing bringing traffic to these "knock on UK sites" are people getting off of a stressful day of work, and in desperate need of a good laugh--that's about all the mixture of "sports knowledge" and grammatical slaughter adds up to. Seriously, these articles sound like something from Comedy Central. Maybe you should take your journalistic experience there? I heard a few comedians needed new material for Stand-Up Fridays.

Hey Conquest, you're not a UK fan are ya?

I do think Kentucky will come out of this slump with flying colors.Kentucky fell off with that eddie sutton thing back in the 80s.How many schools do you know of that can come back after something like that..Theres not a team in the SEC who could over come something like that.Kentucky not only came back but they won a couple national champion ships, came in runner up in another...Not to mention the SEC titles...The fact is Kentucky is Kentucky, the rest is just the rest...Its not our fault that GOD made Kentucky the heart of college basketball..And oh yeah HORSE CAPITAL of the world..

sounds like wishful thinking to me...

to the cardinal-head above...who are you because i will personally come and open a can of whoop-ass on your head. of course KY will come out of this resting period. the stands are still sold out and the cats are still beating the cards. things are only sunny in the big blue nation. thank you.
