Kansas vs. Memphis; The Grand Daddy of Them All

Player matchups:

Derrick Rose vs. Mario Chalmers

- Derrick Rose rarely turns over the ball and makes challenging plays look easy. While Mario Chalmers is the player I feel will be the one to take the crucial if Kansas is in a tight one, Derrick Rose's strength and athleticism will be too much. Edge: Derrick Rose

Chris Douglas-Roberts vs. Brandon Rush

-This matchup likely will decide the outcome of the game. Both are great shooters with CDR having greater ability in the transition game. If Brandon Rush can limit CDR's effectiveness, Kansas will win. Chris Douglas-Roberts, the All-American is just too good. Edge: Memphis

Darrell Arthur vs. Robert Dozier

-Arthur, when he shows some tenacity and Kansas makes an effort to get the ball down to him he can be one of the most effective big men in the country. Dozier has athleticism for his size, but Arthuer has more. Edge: Kansas

Darnell Jackson vs. Joey Dorsey

-Dorsey has been a changed man since the beginning of the tourney. Dorsey can be very dominant in a game through rebounding and defense without scoring (as shown by in the UCLA game). Darnell Jackson has been very inconsistent in this tournament but can bring a lot to a team. Edge: Memphis

Kansas Bench vs. Memphis Bench

-Kansas: Sasha Kaun has played his best basketball this tournament. He is possibly the only big man that cared to show up for the Davidson game and the reason Kansas is still playing. Sherron Collins can replace Russell Robinson and Chalmers without missing a beat. When his outside shot is falling, he is dangerous. Big negative: Collins turned the ball over 7 times against UNC. And don't forget about Cole Aldrich. He played strong when the other Kansas big men were struggling with foul trouble.

-Memphis: Shawn Taggart is similar to Dozier, neither do too much or hurt a team by stupid mistakes. Shawn can clean up the glass at times but expect Kansas to keep him out of there. !! Kansas, at times is careless with boxing out, which could result in easy baskets for Taggart. Willie Kemp, last year's starting point guard is capable of producing decent numbers when giving Rose a breather. Edge: Kansas

My pick: Kansas in a close one, 87-82.

KS better win and enjoy Self while they got him. There are heavy rumors that T. Boone is offering him $3.5M a year to go to Oklahoma State.

Too bad Kansas had to resort to hack a shack to win the Title. Outside of Kansas, who cares that Kansas won the national Championship. I'd say Memphis (we can't shoot free throws) lost the game more than Kansas (hack a shack) won it!

It's part of the game, man. Get over it. Do you think KS would have been the only team to do that at that point of the game? Memphis tried it in the end, but KS hit their free throws. Bet you wouldn't be upset at the Memphis hacking if KS would have missed theirs and LET Memphis win.

C'mon Fiverings! With all your basketball knowledge I'd think you'd be against this ole Hack a Shack ball! Let's face it--no one outside of Kansas will remember how the Jayhawks won the national Championship; rather we all will remember Memphis gave it away! I'm not a fan of either!

And if Memphis would have won it, would you think that anyone outside of Memphis would have cared? Works both ways. Do I like the Hack-A-Shack? No, but it's part of the game and as long as it is , I'll accept it. It's unfathomable to me anyway why players that can hit every other shot in the world can't make a simple free throw shot.

Now your talkin Fiverings. Only an ex-baller can make a statement like that. I don't know 38-1 would have went down in history. Now...there just a footnote.

Oh well. S**t happens. I just know KS made them when they had to and MEM didn't. That's why they have the trophy now. The N.E. pats could have been champions and made history, too. Oh well!!!

The N.E. pats and spygate...now your opening up a big can of worms. I don't know but Bellichek and Williams have al ittle something in common: shadyness!

Oh by the way Fiverings, are you referring to the World Champion San Francisco 49ers with your call sign. Let's see...who else could it be? The Dallas Cow....I remember a catch a while back...what's his name Everson W....

Yeah, but I don't worry about that anymore. You must have bet your money on Memphis and are a little sore. Too bad. Maybe it will be better next time.

You must be a Politcian; you don't take the bait. As a matter of fact, Memphis winning would have added 12 points to my pool victory. There was only one other guy that picked Memphis in my pool to win; unfortunately, he picked North Carolina to beat Kansas while I picked Kansas. That pick broke the tie. So, the pool victory was settled prior to the game. We both lost tonight; I won the pool. Big deal 400 bucks! I'd have rather seen a team make history by going 38-1!

Congrats on winning the pool. Yeah, history would have been made, but some other team will do it on down the line. I still think the UCLA teams back in the 60's and 70's that won 38 straight NCAA tourney games are the history makers. They also had 4 undefeated seasons and 3 or 4 one-loss seasons and 10 titles in 12 years. As good as Memphis was this year, it pales in comparison to those. Yes, Memphis plays more games, but to do what UCLA did over that period of time is much more difficult.

I can't argue that point! I am a product of that era. So, of course I can relate and understand. Have a great day Fiverings!
