Lil' Romeo is headed to USC

Tiny (okay, he's 6 feet tall) rap phenom Lil' Romeo is headed to USC on a scholarship to play hoops, proving yet again that it is possible for an underprivileged rap star to make it in the college basketball game.

Lil' Romeo is headed to USC to play some ball....

What's up, bro?!

The only thing that could make this story better is if USC hired Master P as an assistant coach.

Floyd accepted a commitment from a 1-star point guard... i wonder if he would've taken him if his name was John Smith instead of Master P's son.

What's going on with USC? First they get bullied into entering the OJ Era on OJ's terms, now they're giving scholarships to rappers... Floyd's casting a reality TV show, not a contending basketball team. I guess it is Hollywood.

He should not get a scholarship..he is rich..that is stupid..There are plenty of poor kids that deserve them more.

but how many of those poor kids can afford platnum Elmo bling?

If it's a merit-based scholarship, it's a moot point that he has money. I'm sure plenty of other scholarship recipients at major programs are wealthy. The scholarship is (ostensibly) because they can play ball, not because they need money.

Yes but I am almost positive that there are better atheletes coming out of the ghetto then there are running around in Hollywood, I mean, when he was running around doing shows and playing Xbox what were the kids on the street doing? Playing ball...it sounds like they pick and choose from the "best" applicants. (best meaning well off in this case)

Baron Davis went to an elite private H.S. with Kate Hudson in Santa Monica. That's pretty Hollywood, IMO. And the last time I checked, Baron's money on the court. You don't have to grow up poor to be good at basketball.

Every single American NBA player was plucked off the streets to play organized basketball at very young ages. Everyone, just maybe with the exception of Jamaal Tinsley, Rafer Alston, and Kenyon Martin, played AAU ball in gyms away from home.

The good ones end up going to the elite highschools. You think Baron Davis would have gone to a private High School with Kate Hudson if he wasn't Mr. Basketball?

why the hell are u hatin do u got a problem wit my husband

yup, USC does the same for academic scholarships. a whole bunch of rich kids who went to my high school got full rides there...can't say i approve, but that's just the way it is, i guess...

u chicken head stop hatin' he deserves it more than anyone in teh world lilromeo i love u hit me at ms.williams302@yahoo.com

good job romeo mybe you could come play us and have you ever heard of eye drops

he is very cute though. What a baby face.

NO WAY... he has the whole i-just-went-through-puberty mustache thing going, and those twists look awful. and that's not a baby face, it's a stoner face. i agree with adament, the boy needs some eyedrops.

haha..thats alright..he did just go through puberty!!!

From what I can understand, the scholarship has little to do with Lil Rom's game and a lot to do with star recruit Demar Derozan. This SI column from a few months back hints that Romeo packaged himself with best friend Derozan in an effort to get himself a high profile school to offer him a scholarship.

Rich kids get sShips all the time. Romeo is decent. Him and D been playing AAU ball for hot Min together

you can see romeo in the background...i love him!

In response to Mr Rosewater's comment " rich kids can play basketball too" blah blah blah, you got me there my friend, Duke became famous from rich kids that could play, but it really wasn't what I meant.. I was referring to romeo specifically because his whole life growing up he has done albums, tours, tv appearances, had his own TV show for a while..and all that time he had extra time to focus on basket ball as well. That is all well and good. I was not doubting his ability…we will see about that. I was just questioning the school board, and what I thought their determining factor was in choosing Romeo out of all the other applicants. Here they have applicant A that has a high point score percentage, does well in class, and whatever else they use to determine eligibility. Perhaps this kid is poor and his parents are depending on the scholarship to get him in. Then they have applicant B Lil Romeo from the Romeo show whom is just as good on scores and everything else..PLUS he is rich so whatever money it costs per year to house and school him…lets say 60k per year, they will get that back triple as an investment because of the money he will spend on campus, the money the school will get for an increase in interest to the school, and ticket sales to the basketball games..I was just putting it out there that I didn't think it was fair, because he can afford to go to the school. Private colleges profile their students and choose whomever they want; it is not illegal to do so. BTW just because Baron Davis went to school with Kate Hudson DOESN'T make him Hollywood..I went to the same school that Uma Thurman went to..does that make me Hollywood? Nope. Nah not really.

So I guess all of you know how good lil romeo is???? You have all seen him play???? What is he like is he a shooter or a distributor or both???? Since you all know that he is just some rich kid who gets what he wants. He must be able to play a little cuz kids dont just get scholarships because they want them... Yall are real ignorant!!!

rich people do. That was my point.

sounds like there are some haters on the forum. Why? because you weren't an athlete or because your not rich? Dont worry anyway once he finds out how hard college really is he wont be there for long

HONEY♥♥♥♥Boi u look so good u just don't kno u went from Lil Romeo to Percy Miller. U just don't kno wat U can do for me

hi romeo i just printed out a pic of u

H3ll0 \\//\\//0\\//\\// y0u l00k diff hahha but cut3r w3ll s33 ya b00 Im ya cindarella

i dont see what the problem could be with romeo playing basketball. yes its true that poor families do look for athletic scholarships so that there kids can go to college. but what does that have to do with why coaches pick who they pick? coaches pick because they need to be able to make a profit off the people they put on the team, and they pick so that they will benefit the game of the team. yall buggin like the boy got a free ride. and if he did then thats less money for him to spend and more to save. just cuz the cat got money dont mean he dont try to be conservative wit it. yes its true that putting romeo will make sold out games and some type of publicity to the team. but one thing that u have to understand is that is they have a chance of receiving negative publicity because of him. and because he is who he is he had to and will be under some strong speculation. i say more power to the man. i mean, there is no reason to be upset. its not just to the benefit romeo but to the shcool's reputation and the paycheck of the coach. believe it or not athletics do affect the amount of money given to the school. u have to see it from there perspective as well. and though it may sound stubborn, selfish, or inconsiderate its there to benefit of more than one person. plus when it comes to sports u gotta know that whether he was to choose some poor and busted kid or a materially blessed brat (not reffering to romeo) that they were chosen for the benefit of the team and the school but just happen to get a blessing out it.

hey baby boy is yur girl sheilah im yur sexy boy magazine

my name is Ema noel and i don't have a middle name. i really lov u and all you're pictrue too.im 17 bye i lov u

all of you guys are ridiculous if you think that USC would give him a scholarship if he wasnt a worthy baller..bottom line is that he can play and he deserved a scholarship 4 it..the question of money shouldnt even come into play..my sister received a full ride to NC State..were not rich, she isnt bringing on tremendous tickett sales for them, but she is a great atlete and frankly thats all that matters in this case..the point of a scholarship is to attract the athlete to your school..think sumtimes people
