Utah State starters Max Shulga, Sean Bairstow enter portal
Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Utah State starters Max Shulga and Sean Bairstow both entered the transfer portal on Monday.

Their announcements come five days after coach Ryan Odom left the program to become the new coach at VCU.

Shulga, a junior guard, averaged 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists and made 55 3-pointers in 35 games (all starts) this season. Bairstow, also a guard, averaged 10.3 points and 5.2 rebounds in 35 games (all starts) in his fourth season in the program.

Their decisions come after Utah State went 26-9 and reached the NCAA Tournament before losing to Missouri in the first round.

"No matter where basketball takes me, this is an experience I'll remember and cherish forever," Shulga wrote on social media of his three seasons with the Aggies. "With that being said, after talking with my family and friends, I have come to the decision that it is best for me to enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining."

Bairstow made a similar declaration for entering the portal and reflected on his time at Utah State, located in tiny Logan but known for having one of the top homecourt atmospheres in the West.

"To the Hurd and all our fans, thank you for your unwavering support and passion for Aggie basketball," Bairstow said on social media. "You have made my college experience so special, and I am so thankful to have called the spectrum home."
