Are Conference Championship Games Beneficial?

One of the areas of note was the fact the SEC has a conference championship game, while the Big 10 does not. Many believe the SEC, ACC and Big 12 have an advantage for potentially propelling one of those conference champions into the BCS championship game.

As the article says, the advantage is the extra game and BCS points it can generate for the winner. On the other hand, a loss can run them out of the BCS race. Hard to quantify it either way. I still think college football needs a playoff system involving the BCS bowls. Even then, I'm not sure you can come up with a fair solution, but it's better than the system that is in place now.

Exactly - you could argue the case for both easily. I don't see a solution because you can't penalize those that don't play a conference championship, although in a way they are. The extra game gives the conference champions an additional boost in the BCS rankings.

I don't have a solution but for now, the BCS is going to continue to be the way we crown a champ.

i think that teams that go to their championship game are beneficial because of the extra game that they, but just because they go does not mean they are the best team
