Predicting the Top 10 Quarterbacks Based on Historical Trends

Year after year there are surprises and disappointments in the NFL even though before the season starts many seem convinced that they can predict the top five or ten players at each position. Since 1999, it has never happened that the top three fantasy quarterbacks all remained in the top five the following season. Find out which of Brady, Manning and Romo we believe may not finish amongst the top five this upcoming season.

its great that McNabb's there, but it's hard to believe anything this says since Lienart is in the top 5

well at least Jay is there

Jay could be a top 5 QB, but Lienart made me laugh. He should be happy that he has a chance to start.

Out of curiosity which QB outside the top 25 would you think has a better chance than Leinart of finishing in the top 5? Schaub, Delhomme, Kitna, Young, Campbell or Garcia? Whichever you choose someone is gonna laugh.

true. It's just Lienart isn't even going to fully start. And hasn't shown anything special at all yet.
Garrard, Brees, Palmer, and several more will easily finish ahead of Lienart.

I just think that Leinart has shown that he doesn't want to play football for whatever reason. He was terrible before he went out last season. He played with zero heart. He was outperformed by Kurt Warner.

All I'm saying is that it's a very liberal guess. I think Kitna is probably a better pick just because we know he's been there before and he has some amazing receivers.

Kitna isa possibility but you're right it is a guess and it's hard to agree on. Reason I chose Leinart ahead is because Kitna won't pass as much without Martz and Leinart's receivers are probably more talented. If he focuses he's got everything to be a top 5 guy but I'd be quite surprised as well.

How do you figure that in Whisenhunts offense where James ran the ball 324 times last year and they plan on running more this year, Leinart can finish top 5? He won't post the numbers that Warner did and his numbers were not top 5.

Cutler you can make an agruement for but I think there is little chance that he finishes ahead of Brees, barring injury. Brees has more completions and yards than any other QB in the past two years. He has the 2nd best completion percentage and highest efficiency in the red zone. His top WR is only getting better and next to Westbrook his RB is the best pass catching back in the league.

I like the thought that went in to the article but think it's way off.

Ariona was the 6th best passing attack last season in terms of fantasy points behind Patriots,Cowboys, Packers, Colts and Saints. No I don't think Leinart will be top 5 but someone outside the top 15 always surprises and I think he's the most likely to surprise.
I'm a big fan of Brees as well but every year some one drops, I hope it's not Brees because I'm a Saints fan but every year some one does and it's hard to go against Brady and Manning.

I'm inclined to drop Anderson. I can see performance dropping for all of the top 5 but what I don't see is any other QB in the right situation to step up. I think Hass, and Palmer's numbers are going to suffer because both teams should have slightly stronger running games and weaker passing games than last year. And I don't think Cutler or Eli have the juice to get past Romo or Brees, let alone Brady or Manning. If everything goes right McNabb may have a shot. However, that would entail the rookie, Jackson, stepping up to catch 45 or so passes and LJ staying healthy. Neither of those scenarios are very likely.

Leinart does have the talent around him to potentially be that good. Do I think he'll be a top 5 QB? No, but I can see why someone might project him to be.

Here's my top 5:
Brady
Manning
Romo
Brees
Palmer

It's not that I don't think McNabb is a top talent, he just has to prove he can stay healthy and even if he does, I don't know if he has the talent around him other than Westbrook to hang with those guys. Cutler could be up there but he lost one of his main targets in Javon Walker. My sleeper pick is Aaron Rodgers. He may not be a top 5 QB this year but he might be in the running for next year. He was highly touted out of college, has been under a legend on the depth chart, and did well in his few opportunities last year.

i agree with you. How come Aaron Rodgers is either a sleeper, or no good at all. He has Driver Jennings and Jones/Nelson. Ryan Grant is one of the best, so is the O-line. To top it off The Packers D is great. I don't see how Rodgers couldn't succeed.

I think anointing Grant as one of the best is a but premature but he sure seems to be capable of repeating last years performance. You can't count on Rodgers as much more than a sleeper considering he hasn't done it before. Favre finished with 28 TD passes, you certainly can't count on Rodgers for that many but 22-24 is possible. I have him in my top 12 but right near the bottom.
