Arkansas gets their big-name coach, can Michigan?

Although I don't like how Petrino resigned today, I have to give Ar-Kansas credit, they got themselves one helluva coach in Petrino. If the guy can have the same effect on the Hogs as he did in Louisville, they are going to be a team to be reckoned with in the SEC. I can only inmagine the joy in Hogland.

The Hogs were already a decent team. They might just get a lot better now. Maybe Cam Cameron goes to Michigan? Does make sense.

The guy was a bust at Indiana, he needs to stay a coordinator like Norv Turner, Mike Shula, Gregg Williams. some guys are just better coordinators.

agreed. some guys are better to stay in coordinator roles. all excellent examples.

He wasn't a bust at Louisville though.

He was talking about Cam Cameron. He coached at IU, his alma mater, had Antwaan Randle El fall into his lap, and still could not get to a bowl game. Part of the problem was that he did not know what to do with Randle El. He started his career off at quarterback, but by his senior year, Cameron tried to harness his explosive talent by putting him in at receiver. Only problem was that he did not have any other half-decent QBs. It was not until Randle El went back to QB that they started to perform better and actually win games, including laying 60 on Wisconsin at Camp Randall. If he had kept Randle El at QB, they might have made it to a bowl, although that probably would have meant six or seven victories instead of four. Either way, Cam Cameron is still not head-coaching material, although that 2001 Bucket defeat in the Bloomington monsoon is still painful.

I have mixed emotions on Petrino. His college record is stellar, but his pro is not. Granted the Vic situation is very bad, but his relationships with the other players on the Falcons is of great concern. I hope for the best as a Hogs fan.

His relationship went downhill with the other plays probably because of their open support for Vick. They need to move on and forget about him. Only time will tell if Petrino is a good hire for Arkansas, but I bet it turns out to be fine.

Obviously the NFL and College records are not that important. I mean look at Nick Saban. He wasnt to hot of a NFL coach, but is one of the best college coaches.. Petrino will be welcomed with open arms, and I think Arkansas will be at the top here in a couple of years, depending on who stays..

I think Petrino has a good offensive mind. Look what he did at Louisville. He's a got a decent QB at Arkansas, but I doubt he'll have McFadden. They still have a dynamite running back in Felix Jones, though. There could be a dropoff in his first year, but that remains to be seen. Shoot, just bring back Frank Broyles.......LOL>

I dont think Felix Jones will be back... I also dont think we have a decent quarterback.. We are getting Mortenson back though. He is coming back from his transfer from what I have heard.

Sounds like Petrino may have his work cut out for him, but I think he's up to the task. Got to be better than coaching overpaid pro players who don't earn their money.

I don't think petrino fits with arkansas's history. He likes to throw a lot!! Arkansas is normally a pound 'em type of team.

Offenses do change. Might be a nice change. Never know.

I agree, they need change up there, Houston Nutt ran an offense that was one step from the wishbone, but when you have McFadden and Felix Jones, running the ball is not such a bad option. Another question no one is asking is how much does Mitch Mustain wish he was still at Ar-Kansas instead of riding the pine at USC. Bobby Petrino's QBs put up some pretty impressive numbers and Mustain is not likely to see the field at USC for another year maybe two.

I agree with that one. Mustain won't play there just like Nichol won't play at Oklahoma. Sometimes, it just works out that way. I thought Casey Dick was a highly rated QB out of Allen, TX. Granted, he's no Mustain or Ryan Mallett, but he ain't no slouch.

Hogs...enjoy him the 3 or so years he stays. Most fickle guy you could get! Wait until another job he "likes" comes around. Oh...and his recruiting. Always good...especially to instate guys. Give them a ride and win a game...nah. He calls and withdraws for no good reason. High ranking or not. Sorry, but this guy is slime.

Yeah........there are a few slimeballs out there in the coaching profession. Dennis Franchione rates right up there with the best and can teach a class on it. He had it made at Alabama and didn't stick around long enough to make it work. Not sure if he would have anyway though. He took a record-setting high school passer and made a running QB out of him. Of course, if your program is winning, has tradition and recruits well, then a coach's tenure tends to be a little longer. Tressell, Carroll, Stoops, Brown and a handful of others.

I'm not sure about "most fickle." Les Miles & Nick Saban are at the top of my "most fickle" list. Are folks in Oklahoma the only ones who remember how Miles dealt with OSU, even during their bowl game, right up to the second he left for LSU? That LSU contract means nothing; I still think he'll end up at Michigan.

Yeah.....and then he comes out and says that his recent contact with Michigan is "to help them in their search for a new head coach". Yeah , right. You know he wants that job. He's just playing LSU for more money now and when he feels it's right, he'll scat.

Petrino to Arkansas? I guess now Bill Clinton's not the only Arkansan who's fucked over a lot of people. (That's right, a Bill Clinton joke - what up now Arkansas!)

Dang. I lost a point. Was it for the swearing or the lame joke?

At least Bill's got good taste!!! LOL

another sec coach who cant honor a contract. wow , no ethics down south huh?

Maybe it's because the SEC is the toughest conference to play football in. It's tough to go in there and win consistently these days. I guess they could go to the cream puff Big Ten or Pac 10 and maybe get some tenure there.

Yea they just beat everybody's ass.. Atleast you can diss the south about something, because we all know we are better at sports in general...
