Boise St Takes Down Sooners in OT 43-42

The last five minutes of this football game were probably some of the best I have ever seen. Summary goes something like this:

Boise winning the entire game gives up a TD with about 2 minutes to go to tie the game (The whole country is thinking, crap, the underdog is going to blow it).

Compounding the pain, Boise QB Jared Zambransky throws an interception that is returned for a TD while trying to get his team into field goal range during regulation. Boise is now down by 7 with 1 minute to go.

Then the magic happens. 4 & 18 with 18 seconds to go. Boise runs the hook and ladder to perfection. Touchdown. We are going to OT. This play never even worked in my backyard, I cant believe it worked in the Fiesta bowl.

Boise wins the coin toss and elects to play D. Sooners get the ball. One play, one result. Adrian Peterson 25 yard TD. Pressure is back on Boise.

Boise makes it down to a 4th & Goal situation. What play will they run? How about a wide receiver pass from Vinny Perretta to Derek Schouman? TD.

Boise down by 1 but with momentum on their side elect to go for 2 and show the world they deserved a shot at Ohio St. Not content with the trick plays they have run so far Boise St runs a Statue of Liberty to Ian Johnson who takes it into the endzone with ease. Thats right, they won the game on the Statue of Liberty. Unreal!

Game over Boise wins 43-42.

But as if thats not enough trickery on the field, Ian Johnson then decides to propose to the head cheerleader while Chris Myers is interviewing him. Completely stunned (actually Chris Myers ruined the surprise) she accepts.

Not even Hollywood would jam that much drama and trickery into one film.

Truly awesome.

Yeah, the ending of that game was the best I've ever seen, college or pro. It had everything but a fumblerooski (which is now illegal, anyway). I just hope it wasn't too late for everyone on the east coast.

that game was crazy....i dont even like college football and i was going nuts

The only reason the bowl format trumps a playoff....unfortunately...the only reason.

What do you mean?! If there were a playoff then a team like Boise State would have a chance to prove just how good they are. I'd love to see them advance to play, say, USC.

you dumb shit. That game would have been ten times greater and held more meaning if the winner would have advanced to play for a title.

Boise St. did a great job of never going away. They wanted to win real bad, and it showed. Oklahoma sux so much- they are such bowl chokers.

Please stop making it out to be a huge upset. It was a helluva game, but it wasn't that big of an upset. They are the Gonzaga of NCAA football. You don't know anything about the team except that they are good. Just because they don't have a big name like a Troy Smith, Adrian Peterson, or Brady Quinn doesn't mean they aren't good

WhiteJordan makes an interesting point. Boise St is a good team. In fact they have a great program. In 2004 they were undefeated in the regular season, but lost their bowl game to Louisville (the only ranked team they played that year). In '05 they wen 9-3 but also lost their bowl game to BC. 2 of their 3 regular season losses were also to the only 2 ranked opponents they played. So basically it looks like they are a good team, but only against crap teams. So this year, its a similar story but with a twist. They dont play any ranked teams but end up going undefeated. The only ranked team they play is the Sooners who they edge out a dramatic win over. Without a playoff system, its impossible to judge just how good they are. Are they good enough to beat more ranked opponents? No one will know and they will continue to get the same level of cinderella respect, but will never earn the respect of best team in the country even though they were undefeated and never had a chance to prove more.
