Confidence: USC vs. OSU

The hype has begun. The Ohio State University Buckeyes vs. the University of Southern California Trojans on the gridiron, 8:00 pm ABC, September 13th, from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Most Ohio State fans are trying to be cautiously optimistic but are mentally preparing for the worst as the Buckeyes are coming off of two devastating BCS National Championship Game losses. Conversely, this game is of utter importance for a lot of reasons as it could have implications on not only this season's outcome but it could also could do further damage to OSU's poor reputation as the power in a weak Big 10 that is much inferior to powerful SEC.

The odd part of this is that Ohio St. could lose and still run their weak schedule and end up in the BCS Championship if the SEC teams beat up on each other. If USC loses, they'll be done because their schedule actually has decent teams on it. OSU is the most overrated of the college powerhouses. They routinely feast on Youngstown St. and Ohio as non-conference games. Play somebody Tressel!

Ohio St. and USC have very similar schedules in my opinion. They are each other's toughest game and both play 2-3 other potential top 25 teams the rest of the year. USC has Virginia, Arizona St. and Oregon, while OSU has Wisconsin, Illinois, and Penn St.

Actually, the Buckeyes play Ohio University very, very infrequently... But yes, we do give some other Ohio schools the opportunity to play in the 'Shoe. Usually, it's Cincinnati.

Every major D-1 school has a handful of soft teams they play. Ohio State played 3 #2 ranked teams in the same yr in 06' ( and lost the most important one of course). Don't hate the Buckeyes for consistantly being in contention and playing Championships( Conference and BCS ). Ohio State is slated to have 2 game series with several schools ( USC, Miami, Oklahoma, Va. Tech, Cal) in the next several yrs. All I can say after last yr , teams need to take advantage of thier oppurtunities ...............AND STOP PLAYING THIER WAY OUT OF CONTENTION. Teams backed thier way out of the BCS title game last yr. For example Georgia...........Sorry Dawg fans, but you didn't even win your Conference let alone your division in your Conference, and you played Hawaii in a Bowl game. It looked like it was the first game Hawaii had off the Island. talk about overrated.............

thats ok, sc will slap osu and save us from them running a sorry schedule only to get punked in the title game. its hard to play your way out of contention when you play a "little 10" schedule. I will take pete and months to prep (plus a decent first game as opposed to 2 community colleges) in a trojan beatdown at so-cal

Don't forget the Buckeyes will be playing in smoggy LA in September. As Va Tech how that air tastes. USC will pummel Ohio State, but I still think OSU may run the table. Maybe "Bichigan" can at least put up a fight this year. Wait...probably not.

this game should really not be close, wells hasnt run against a front seven like ours except against LSU. look what happened, forced boecman to pass a lot and he showed how terrible he really is

fight on

The Buckeyes will be ready for Sept. 13th as well.........................As bad as the rest of the country played last yr, a team with a weak schedule made it into the BCS title game, yes...............and we will definately be in Miami for another one if we pull it out in Pasedena. But then there will be other excuses as to why we shouldn't be there as well. Everyones pockets are full of reasons why things don't happen the way they want them to.

USC will probably beat OSU but the new USC offensive line might not develop
soon enough to win. Therefore OSU has an excellent opportunity to nail USC
during a rebuilding period.

USC's QB Sanchez looked pretty erratic against Oreagon last yr. Pressure on him might be a key for the Buckeyes to pull it out. Make him make the mistakes , and then capitolize on it.

Our defense is usually top-notch... here's hoping they are in Sept.

Last year was OSU's rebuilding year, and we made it to the NC. I'm a student at OSU and a huge fan, and I did NOT want to play in the NC last year because I knew we were rebuilding. The only problem was, none of the other teams stepped up.
This year, USC is rebuilding and I'd like to see them try to beat an Ohio State team going at full force. I think it will be an embarrassment, even for a team that lost to Stanford last year...

I concur.

you are a homo drworm

9 returning starters on offense and defense. All American canidates in Boone, Laurinites, Wells and Jenkins. And what did Wells do against that LSU defense.....hmmmm....146yds, 1TD, 7.3yard average. 63 yard long. Your right 510thebay. What a crappy game for Wells. I hope he does that bad against USC. OSU wins easy with green(new) USC offense.

Yes, the Big Ten has been weaker the past couple of years. Yes, OSU was embarrassed 2 years ago. However, two years ago we had an excellent offense, Ginn got hurt and we didn't perform. Our defense was very young. Remember the Michigan game before the NC? Michigan put up like 40 points.
Last year we were picked 3rd in the weak Big Ten! We even lost to Illinois. So don't think we were embarrassed that game. Anyone who thought we'd win that drank the Kool-aid. Think back to '02. If Bockmen doesn't make mistakes (and thats a big if) like Krensel didn't make mistakes and our D is as tough as '02 (ask Willis McGahee) we may pull it out this year. I would love to beat USC and then take Tebow out. I think beating the best the PAC and the SEC has in one year would be redemtion for OSU. A bit of a long shot but possible. I'm a little worried about the size of USCs line backers. Anyone see the pic of Laurinitis next to Ray whats-his-name? That dude looks pretty large.

look all you HATORADE subscribers, fact is that we beat the teams that are put in front of us, and no one has played more top 10 teams over the past 7 years than the Buckeyes, (i.e. Miami, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Texas, Notre Dame, etc..) we were flat out out-coached two years ago against Florida and last year we set an OSU record for personal fouls in a bowl game, add to that 4 turnovers and the greatest teams of all time would be hard pressed to have beaten that LSU team...it seemed like everytime we stopped them defensively we committed a stupid personal foul, if we can get back to Tressel ball and play great defense we will win our rematch with Florida in Miami....
