Notre Dame coach calls U.S. military "hoodlums and thugs"

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis used to be a respected coach. Now he loses games and degrades the U.S. military. Recently, Weis was quoted as saying "I could get hoodlums and thugs and win tomorrow. I won't do it that way." He was referring to his matchup with the football teams of Navy and Air Force. Nice call, Charlie-good timing too, considering, I don't know, WE'RE AT WAR

I'd rather have a bunch of hoodlums and thugs backing me than a bunch of highly prized recruits who can't even win football game.

When one considers the fact that Notre Dame can recruit more football players then all the 3 military schools combined I find it very disappointing that Charlie Weis doesn't know how to get the best out of these fine players at ND. DON'T BLAME ANYONE ELSE FOR YOUR FAILURE TO BE A GOOD COACH AT ND CHARLIE. Thank God ND didn't play Army last year or the military schools would have been 3 for 3 over Notre Dame!!!! That's what I call good coaching.
Roger

I'm sure they will be looking forward to playing him again this year.

Im not a ND fan nor will I ever but this guy is not only a joke but a f$%ken loser. How many years has he had control over ND. I remeber when you feared playing that team. now I would fear duke more than them. He does not know football. Also thugs dont go to Army or Navy because in the end they become officers. Im enlisted and I understand Army, Navy, and Air force is not about winning Football its about getting people smart people to join and be leaders of men. So this Weis guy has runed not only a great team but is destroying its Legacy

He was a good offensive coordinator at New England, but maybe not as good as he though considering N.E. still continued to beat up on defenses most of last season. I bet he's out of ND if he doesn't at least make it to a bowl game this coming season.

Ummm, this article is VERY misleading. Charlie Weis was not referring to the military schools when he mentioned "hoodlums" or "thugs." He was just saying he could recruit "hoodlums" or "thugs" if it meant winning, but he wouldn't do that because Notre Dame prides itself on having higher standards. He said nothing about Notre Dame's opponents, nor did he say anything at all about the military schools. Besides, he made the comments in late April - I don't believe they play any football in April, and I see no reason why he'd be addressing the military schools then (http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/cs-080517-notre-dame-charlie-weis-spygate,1,2806558.story). I'm not defending the job Charlie Weis has done as coach because he's been pretty pitiful, but I don't think it's fair to twist his words in this way.

Nice call out O. That might be the worst misconstruing of words I have ever seen. Come on Pres. Bush wouldn't even make that leap and he can't even tie his shoes.
