The Only Way It Can Happen ... I Tell You "All You Need To Know" About The Rematch Scenario

Thanks to Stephen Colbert, obviously. A lot of people are clamoring for a Big Ten title game championship. This possibility has merits, but Michigan is still fourth in the running, as I see it. Ohio State is in, USC running second and Florida third. Here's how it breaks down:

-USC controls its own destiny. If they beat Notre Dame and UCLA, they will have a 5-0 record against ranked teams.

-If USC loses either one of those games, it falls to Florida. Florida is the best remaining one loss team, and if they can beat Florida State this weekend and Arkansas in the SEC title game, they will be 3-1 against ranked teams, 12-1 overall, their only loss coming against 10-2 Auburn. This is where it gets sticky.

-Michigan has finished its season 11-1 with their only loss against Ohio State. They are 2-1 against ranked teams, and it is their win over Notre Dame that kills The Irish's chances for a title game bid.

So we have:

-11-1 Michigan with one loss to Ohio State and a 2-1 record against ranked teams

-12-1 Florida with one loss to Auburn and a 3-1record against ranked teams

I think the SEC, with 5 ranked teams, edges out Michigan and the Big 10 with their 3 ranked teams. Give USC or Florida a chance. However ... what if Florida loses to Arkansas in the SEC title game?

-First Arkansas has to beat LSU this weekend Then if they win that game and take out Florida, they will be 12-1, 4-1 against ranked teams, with their only loss coming against USC. That would be a tough choice, Arkansas coming out of the SEC and all. But as good as Arkansas is, I'm pretty sure that Michigan would prevail.

But it will be a one-loss team against undefeated Ohio State, that's for sure. Who would give them the best matchup? I love USC, but Florida has a better defense. That''s my matchup.

Agreed. Florida is the more complete team. Go Trojans!

if USC loses to Notre Dame on Saturday, Michigan will gain hold of #2 in all the polls, computer and otherwise, and will be locked into #2 in the BCS standings. If USC wins out, then they will most likely bunny-hop over the Wolverines in the computers. I'd pick Florida over USC because of the Trojans' loss to Oregon, but the computers will rank, assuming everyone wins (meh, Notre Dame): OSU, USC, Michigan, Florida.

I wish Florida would play in the Championship though so that we could have a Michigan - USC Rose Bowl matchup. Instead we'll maybe see someone like Boise State or West Virginia play in the Rose Bowl.

Why is USC ranke above Notre Dame right now. I mean Notre Dames only loss is to the number 2 team in America and USC lost to OREGON STATE. Anyway, I guess we'll find out on Saturday.

The reason is because Notre Dame has beat one truely competitive team, Georgia Tech, and they aren't even that good. USC on the other hand has had to play a tougher schedule- not much tougher, but tougher.

Because Michigan is the only ranked team that Notre Dame has played besides Georgia Tech. USC has beaten Arkansas, Oregon, Cal and Nebraska. And they lost by two points, not 26 like the Irish

If its USC vs. OSU in the Rose Bowl the Rose Bowl gets the first two picks, so they will select Michigan and someone, that team will certainly not be Boise St. as they will be the last team picked. West Virginia, Lousiville, LSU, Arkansas, Florida, Oklahoma are the teams that would be considered by the Rose Bowl to match up with the Wolverines based on who wins the SEC title game by how much, whether LSU beats Arkansas etc. But it won't be Boise St.

Agreed I would have liked Cal to not lose to Arizona so it would be Pac 10 Big 10 though.

USC played the best out of conference schedule in the country thats why they have the the best chance to make it to the title game. Had Florida played a single decent team out of conference they would have a better chance of being ahead of either Michigan or USC or possibly both.
