Clay Helton officially retained as USC coach
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

It’s official: Clay Helton is getting another season as head coach of the USC Trojans.

USC athletic director Mike Bohn confirmed Wednesday that Helton will remain with the school, adding that they will “take a hard look at all aspects of the football enterprise” to ensure that the program can contend for titles.

While the news is unlikely to be popular among the fan base, the writing has been on the wall for a while. We’ve been hearing for a week that Helton was likely to be retained, though some erroneous reporting briefly cast doubt and confusion on his status.

Helton is 40-21 as USC’s head coach. The No. 22-ranked Trojans will play in a bowl game fresh off an 8-4 campaign in 2019.
