College football Week 5 best teaser

Week 5 of the college football season not only features the second full week of conference games, but it's the first week where the weather will have a major impact on the entire landscape. Hurricane Ian already caused South Carolina to move up its originally scheduled game vs. South Carolina State from Saturday to Thursday, and there's a chance additional games get rescheduled over the next day or two. And with the transition from summer to fall, expect the drop in temperature to affect teams' passing attacks.

The first leg of our teaser is the undefeated Minnesota Gophers (-6) at home vs. the slumping Purdue Boilermakers. Minnesota's 34-7 road stomping over Michigan State earned them a spot in the top 25, and make no mistake about it, the Gophers are for real. They might even be the best team in the Big Ten West, too.

Head Coach P.J. Fleck turned the Western Michigan football program around in a short time, and after taking the Gophers job in 2017, he's finally starting to turn Minnesota into a legit program. And with Purdue quarterback Aidan O'Connell's status still up in the air for Saturday, Minnesota at -6 is just too good to pass up.

The Boilermakers barely squeezed by Florida Atlantic last week without O'Connell, and if the sixth-year senior can't suit up on Saturday, Purdue has little to no chance of winning against a team of Minnesota's caliber. The Gophers have allowed the second-fewest number of points in the nation, and have allowed the fewest amount of yards in the nation. Those two stats alone simply make Minnesota elite.

And it's not like Minnesota's offense is bad. The Gophers are averaging just over 45 points a game and have converted on third down more than 78% of the time this season. And they've only turned over the ball three times in four games.

Even if O'Connell plays, the Boilermakers lost to Syracuse two weeks ago with him, and Minnesota is on a completely different level than Syracuse. There's a good chance Minnesota covers the original 12-point spread, but with the teaser lowering it to six, you have no reason not to jump on it.

As for the final leg of our teaser, take Kentucky +13 vs. Ole Miss. Both teams looked bad in their wins last week, but Kentucky should look much better offensively with running back Chris Rodriguez back on the field after missing the first four games due to a suspension. Rodriguez rushed for over 1,300 yards last year and scored 13 total touchdowns, and he should get the ball a ton on Saturday against Ole Miss.

The Rebels might be undefeated and playing at home on Saturday, but they looked bad last week in a 35-27 win over Tulsa. The Rebels allowed over 260 yards on the ground last week, and if they don't do a better job stopping the run this week, Rodriguez and the Wildcats are going to run all over Ole Miss. Ole Miss probably wins this game, but don't expect it to be by more a touchdown.

The 2-Leg Teaser Bet: Minnesota (-12) to (-6) and Kentucky (+7) to (+13) (+110 odds via Barstool)
