Former Cowboys QB Sees College Football Career End Before Bowl Game
Petre Thomas-USA TODAY Sports

Ole Miss quarterback and former Cowboy Spencer Sanders' career playing college football has come to a close. He was reportedly deemed academically ineligible to participate in the Peach Bowl to close out the Rebels season.

The Rebels are set to take on the No. 10 Penn State Nittany Lion on Dec. 30. One would have to assume Sanders now will turn his focus towards making a push to play pro football -- whether that be in the NFL or another league.

Sanders spent four years with Oklahoma State, starting at the quarterback position. After last season, Sanders, along with plenty of others, hit the transfer portal, looking for a better situation than they had in Stillwater.

It wasn't a perfect exit for Sanders and company, but he ended up transferring to Ole Miss to finish his college football career in Oxford. He knew it would be a quarterback battle with Jaxon Dart, which he eventually ended up losing. It didn't hurt that Sanders wasn't able to play at full strength for the entirety of spring ball, allowing Dart all those extra reps ahead of him.

On the season, Sanders finished with 29 passes, completing 19 of them for 278 passing yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. As usual, he added 45 rushing yards on 11 carries.

His impact for the Rebels this season is likely far from what he expected when leaving Stillwater, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he had an incredible career with the Cowboys.

Sanders passed for 9,553 passing yards with 765 completions and 67 passing touchdowns in his four years in Stillwater, throwing 40 interceptions. He added 18 additional touchdowns on the ground, also rushing for 1,956 yards.

It's a shame to see Sanders' season come to a close in this fashion, and watching his college career end the way it did after his career at Oklahoma State is unfortunate.
