Iowa strength coach Chris Doyle issued a statement Sunday defending himself against allegations of racism.

Doyle, who is currently on leave from the program in light of the allegations, acknowledged the feedback he has received from former players but denied making racist or offensive comments to players during his coaching career.

Doyle’s statement comes in light of ex-Hawkeyes cornerback Manny Rugamba alleging that the strength coach mocked black players in his presence on two different occasions.

Doyle has been placed on leave , and head coach Kirk Ferentz is promising a thorough evaluation of Doyle’s conduct and the entire program. Doyle is very confident that he will be absolved, but it appears current and former players will have an important say in that.
