King of Props: New bully in the 'Backyard'

Pitt and West Virginia renew their football rivalry on Thursday night, competing in the “Backyard Brawl” for the first time in 11 years. While the site is the famous confluence of three rivers in Western Pennsylvania, the game has a distinct California influence thanks to two former USC quarterbacks, Pitt’s Kedon Slovis and West Virginia’s JT Daniels.

As the teams ready for battle at the freshly renamed Acrisure Stadium, one proposition bet stands out:

The bet: Over 64½ receiving yards for Pitt wide receiver Konata Mumpfield (Bally's)

It looked like the Panthers’ top target would again be Jordan Addison, the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner. But he opted to catch passes from the new USC quarterback, Oklahoma transfer Caleb Williams. Into the featured role steps Mumpfield, who is likewise a product of the portal, having been a freshman All-American at Akron.

In the Blue-Gold Spring Game, Mumpfield announced his arrival with a 55-yard reception on the first play. More of that kind of explosiveness can be expected tonight, as he gets a great a release off the line of scrimmage and then creates separation with speed and moves. Behind a line that returns all five starters, Slovis should have ample time to find Mumpfield for some big gains.
