Legendary former Florida State Seminoles head coach Bobby Bowden has confirmed to the Tallahassee Democrat he has been diagnosed with a terminal medical condition.
Bowden, set to turn 92 years old in November, shared the following:
"I've always tried to serve God's purpose for my life, on and off the field, and I am prepared for what is to come. My wife Ann and our family have been life's greatest blessing.
"I am at peace."
Bowden's family has asked for privacy regarding his health.
The Hall of Fame coach was hospitalized last fall after testing positive for COVID-19 and, per the Tallahassee Democrat, has seen his health deteriorate since. Most recently, he was hospitalized for five days in late June.
In total, Bowden won two national championships (1993, 1999) and 12 Atlantic Coast Conference titles throughout his Florida State tenure that lasted from 1976 through 2009. According to the Tallahassee Democrat, his 377 collegiate wins is good for fourth all-time behind Eddie Robinson (408), Joe Paterno (409), and John Gagliardi (489).
