Texas TE Jahleel Billingsley won’t play vs Alabama due to suspension

Jahleel Billingsley won’t be suiting up against his former team next Saturday.

Following the Longhorns’ victory over Louisianna Monroe on Saturday, head coach Steve Sarkisian shared that Billingsley is in the middle of a six-game suspension.

“Jahleel Billingsley is in the process of serving a six-game suspension,” Sarkisian said. “Not for anything that occurred here with us but at his previous stop. So he’s in the process of that. He’s got five more games to go. We’ll get him back for Big 12 play.”

Billingsley spent three seasons with the Crimson Tide catching 37 passes for 559 yards and three touchdowns while aiding the team in winning the national championship in 2020.

Last season, Billingsley saw inconsistent playing time at the start of the season with Saban sharing some public comments about the tight end.

“He knows what he is supposed to do,” Saban said back in August of 2021. “This is not a democracy. Everybody doesn’t get to do what they want to do. Everybody doesn’t get to do what they feel like doing. you’ve got to buy in and do what you’re supposed to do to be a part of the team and do the things you need to do in practice every day.”

The Chicago native ultimately lost his starting role to Cameron Latu.

Billingsley would enter the transfer portal one day after Alabama’s national championship loss to Georgia and would ultimately end up with Sarkisian at Texas.
