Elizabeth Banks talks marriage on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Max Handelman presumably couldn't have imagined he'd grow up to marry Elizabeth Banks.

But there's one thing that Handelman has loved longer than Banks.

"The love of his life are the Portland Trail Blazers," Banks said during Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night. "He's from Portland, Oregon. He's a humongous Trail Blazers fan. He recently had a birthday—his birthday was in May—and we've been together a very long time ... and so it's really hard to come up with things to surprise him."

The three-time Emmy nominee continued: "So, this year, I slid into the DMs of Damian Lillard, and I asked him if he wouldn't mind just DMing a 'happy birthday' to my husband. And you know what? He DMed me back, 'Got you.' And he did it. And it's, like, the sweetest thing. And my husband lost his mind!"

Banks and Handelman met on their first day of college at the University of Pennsylvania.

"Twenty-seven years," Banks said in a 2019 Net-a-Porter cover story, so obviously their time together is approximately two years greater now. "It's the thing I'm most proud of. I do think people grow together or they grow apart. We definitely grew together. We were constantly making decisions that kept us close."

Before forming their own production company, Brownstone Productions, Handelman had a finance career on Wall Street.

Banks has built an A-list acting career with roles in film franchises such as the Pitch Perfect trilogy and The Hunger Games. Banks and Handelman served as producers on all three Pitch Perfect films. They have also co-produced Surrogates (2009), the 2019 Charlie's Angels reboot, and Hulu's series Shrill that stars Saturday Night Live's Aidy Bryant.

With Kimmel, Banks also discussed her formative guest role as an adult film star on Law & Order: SVU and hosting Press Your Luck—returning to ABC this Wednesday. Watch below.
