Salma Hayek likens her ex-boyfriends to an octopus, like only Salma Hayek can

Salma Hayek is doing lots of interviews this week surrounding The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard hitting theaters today (June 16), and we've all been better for it, especially her owl-oriented appearance with The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Tuesday night, the Oscar-nominated actress was asked on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to explain why her Instagram bio is strictly emojis (84 of them, to be exact).

"I'm lazy trying to philosophize and come up with a couple sentences of sentences about who I am, so instead, I just picked all the emojis that have anything to do with my life," she said.

Fallon then pressed on how exactly an octopus emoji gives the world a glimpse into who Salma Hayek is, and her response was gold:

"I'm a diver, so I have most of the aquatic animals. I remember—I've had some encounters with octopus. One that I really remember very clearly is an octopus that came and went on my mask and started exploring me. And you cannot panic. You have to, like, bite down on your [mouthpiece in the mask] because they can pull it out or [pull off] the mask.

It was so weird what I was seeing at the beginning. Then it goes black. But it was kind of magical seeing it, and then he went away. I remember dating guys like that when I was younger."

While viewers may have been shocked to hear of such a close encounter with an octopus, Hayek expressed later in the interview that she was truly "shocked" to land a superhero role in Marvel Studios' Eternals. "Can you imagine?" Hayek posited. "You get a superhero character in your fifties?! Mexican! Woman! In your fifties?! I couldn't believe it."

Eternals, directed by Chloe Zhao, is expected Nov. 5.
