Scottie Scheffler Ready to Leave Masters at a Moment's Notice

Scottie Scheffler is off to a hot at the 88th Masters, but he's got more than just birdies on his mind. The 2022 Masters champion is also expecting his first kid with his wife Meredith, and he's made it clear that even if he finds himself at the top of this weekend's leaderboard, family comes first.

Despite a delayed start and crazy winds at Augusta on Thursday, Scheffler shot a bogey-free 66, putting him just one shot off the lead heading into play on Friday. Trailing only Bryson DeChambeau's 65, the World No. 1 finds himself once again right within striking distance of not only his second Masters but his third win of the 2024 season. Sure, there are still three days left of golf to play, but no one has been swinging the clubs quite like Scheffler these days.

Even in striking distance, Scheffler is ready to head home should his wife go into labor at any point in time this weekend.

"We haven't seen any of the early signs. But pregnancy is weird. It can happen at any time," he said. But don't worry, he's got a game plan: "I'm ready to go at a moment's notice."

That might be the best chance for anyone else looking to don the Green Jacket on Sunday. Scheffler remains the heavy betting favorite following Thursday's round, with his current odds to win the tournament at +140 (FanDuel). DeChambeau who holds a one-stroke lead currently sits back at +550.

Round 2 of the Masters begins on Friday at 7:00 am CT. Tee Times & Groupings
