Back in Charm City
What's good everybody? I hope the weekend went well, it seemed like it flew by.
I flew from L.A. into Philly on Saturday afternoon for an autograph signing in Mount Laurel NJ on Sunday afternoon which was a lot of fun. It was definitely successful, and the kids I got to meet were definitely entertaining. I still think it's incredible that we as lacrosse players can do events like this and people will actually show up to meet us, pick our brains about the sport, and grab an autograph, I definitely never saw all of it coming. I've been getting a lot of questions recently about how fast I can run a mile, or how long do I run for in order to prepare for the season. My strength and conditioning coach at Hokpin's, Coach Jay, always told us it didn't make much sense to simply run for 3 miles to prepare for our sport. It's not the same type of running that I'll be doing as a Midfielder in the game of lacrosse. I'll never just be running at a certain pace for 20 minutes. I do A LOT of pick up basketball to simulate getting up and down the lacrosse field. For me, it's great training because I'm always trying to get to the hoop, and trying to beat my defender in basketball to the rim is similar to trying to dodge my defender on the lacrosse field, so that's perfect for me. I do a lot of 300 yard shuttle runs as well, along with 50 yard sprints. I try to stay on the lacrosse field as much as possible during a game. There can be a run where I go down and play defense, then go play offense, then play defense again, then push transition, then come off the field. So, I've got to do as much as I possibly can to train my body for those type of runs. So any type of shuttle run, suicide run, sprint work you can do is definitely the way to go, rather then 3 and 4 mile runs. I got a look at the Nike SPARQ commercial that airs Wednesday March 12th (my birthday son!), and me and Ryan Powell made it into the commercial! We're not in it for long, but it's definitely exciting for lacrosse layers to even be in the same commercial as Steve Nash, LT, Kevin Durant and more. It will air during American Idol so make sure to check that out! There are a few different versions I think, both RP and I are in the longer one. Once it airs I can finally put up the behind the scenes footage I filmed when we did the shoot a while ago. Oh yeah, quick question. So on my flight I was listening to the two dudes behind me talk and they had a nice little debate going. Who is the funniest comedian of our generation? Clearly there have been some GREAT comedians in the past Richard Prior, Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy and more, but I don't know man, there are so many funny dudes right now ya know (all time goes to Richard Prior in my opinion by the way)? Depends on the type of humor your in to to. I think Mike Epp's steals every movie he's in because that cat is so stupid and hilarious, from Next Friday to Welcome Home Rosco Jenkin's. However as far as stand up goes, I'd have to go with Dave Chappelle or Kat Williams. What do you guys think? Well, I need to get some work done and go get a work out in, but I'll check in after Wednesday and see what you all think of the new Nike SPARQ commercial. Have a great week.
