Blue Jays fire manager John Gibbons, hire Cito Gaston

First J.P. Ricciardi blasts Adam Dunn on the radio, now he fires John Gibbons and half of the teams coaches. That isn't really a big shocker if you've been following the performance of the Jays (and Gibbons). The shocker is who they replaced him with: Cito Gaston.

Yes, THAT Cito Gaston.

Its been a LONG time since I've seen that stache.

about time. jays have always struggled finding a good manager. i never knew why gibbons was a professional manager in the first place, he doesn't even manage!

jays have the best starting pitching in baseball and aren't even near .500. it was time for a change

I agree. Gibbons to me always seemed like he was managing to solve a problem rather than managing to prevent a problem. I just don't think he's a good manager at all.

Point in case, all those 5 run CG outings by Halladay that he ended up losing. Everyone is like "oh, but he gave up 3 of the runs in the 8th or 9th." Well yeah, he did, that's why you take him out BEFORE that happens.

Gibbons wasn't good.....no consistency in his lineups

I didn't even know Cito Gaston was still alive.

Neither did I until they hired him. I thought he just disappeared back into the land of lucky managers and huge mustaches.

Gibbons was the worst manager in the bigs for 2 full seasons and now they finally pull the plug . The Blow Jays are a mess and they don't have a shot this year regardless of Gastons magic.

JP should be next on the list to be fired... The Jays have been desperate for a big bat, or even another above average bat, and he's failed misserably to bring someone in. No more excuses for this bum, cut him loose.

Agreed. He's done such a horrible job with the exception of getting BJ Ryan. You could even make a case for it being a bad idea to lock up young guys like Vernon Wells and Alex Rios.
