Facing the Red Sox

We have a double header with the Red Sox today. I had been asked several times if I was looking forward to facing Beckett, even though he may be starting game two. I always like the challenge of going against guys who are pitching well, but I really don't concern myself too much with that. I'm facing that lineup, not the other pitcher.

Boston is a tough place to play. They have a great lineup. They work the count really well. They take a lot of pitches and try to get you deep in the count. I need to keep my pitch count down and not let them get to the bullpen too early. Getting ahead in the count and putting away guys early will be important today. Location will be important, as it always is. I have been locating my fastball pretty well lately and that has really allowed me to use my breaking ball and change up to put guys away quicker. I need some more of that today facing this lineup.

Good luck John. You have to perform in this game. A win, a dominant win, and you asert yourself and your team as the one to beat heading into the Playoffs.

Beat the evil Red Sox nation. I will take the Yankees over the Sox anytime. Good Luck!

Oh by the way, I still am bitter at you for beating my beloved San Francisco Giants in game 7 of the World Series in 2002. I hate you Dusty Baker!! Why not let Ortiz pitch more in the 7th inning, and WHY flip him the frickin' baseball!!

GOOD LUCK..

This is a huge double-dip. Get a game and a 1/2 on Seattle.

Be careful with Manny, John. He seems to get after you a little bit. Good luck!

Good Luck!!!!!!!!

Change your speeds up like normal and you will cruise through that Red Sox lineup today.

might have been your worst outing of the season. That 1st inning looked rough but after that you settled down. Oh well. I'm sure you'll be even more pumped your next start to do better and to get the win
hopefully the guys can pick you up and the Halos can win Game 2 tonight. Getting a split today would be great. Whoever the schedulemakers are, by the way, are incredibly dumb. Had to fly immediately to Boston after last nights game in Toronto for 2 games today. Then after sunday have to fly all the way across the country back to Anaheim to face the Yanks for 3. This is a tough stretch, hopefully the Mariners can go on a bit of a losing streak to help the Halos out

Your feelings about Fenway were quite clear in that first inning. I could clearly read your lips as you muttered,

Undeniably horrible. You stunk it up out there, but you don't need me to remind you. Haha, I'm such an ass for saying it. It's only one game, though. You're still the big guy who I'd go to in the biggest game. Again, you don't need me to remind you of that. I look forward to your next start because I know you'll make it one of your best. Good luck.....oh, but you don't need that either.

Question: Do you hate Red Sox fans as well?

I get a kick out of the Red Sox fans, they can run some good smack. I think they are good, loyal fans to their team. Very passionate and not afraid to show it!

GOOD JOB JOHN, giving it up to my sox like you did in that first inning, got my boy clay his first MLB win, you are having a cy young type season as well as your angels are well on their way they to the playoffs, so its nice to see the sox take them out like that, almost as nice as seeing them get to K-ROD like they did in he nitecap!

whoops...as you muttered, "Fuck this place!" As a lifelong Angel fan, I couldn't agree with anything more. Fuck that place! Great win in second game of the twin bill.

"sawxsuk"

Yeah, lifelong Angels fan. For sure.

Honestly if you're going to switch from the Yankees to the Angels that quick, you should really make a new account. It couldn't possibly be any more obvious. Enjoy second place, cu.nt.

Have another beer, boo9radley, and continue your paranoid delusions about everyone being Yankee fans in disguise. Just because you're paranoid, as they say, doesn't mean they're not out to get you. Screw the Red Sox, screw the Yankees, and screw all you pasty east coast fools. And when all of that's over, just start talking, so I can keep laughing at your ridiculously cartoonish accent.

I still don't know what's funnier about Sox fans, their unhealthy mancrushes/wet dreams about "Big Papi," or their date; that stupid, fat, drunk girl with the pony tail sticking out the back of her sweaty ass Sox hat, a hat she got four boyfriends ago at shave Johnny Damon's puss day.

Jackass Sox fans...I tell ya'. "Cowboy Up?" My god, there's nothing worse than the Red Sox...except their belligerent fat-girl loving fans.

hey boo why are you posting/reading an Angels pitchers blog? Aren't you supposed to be a dogs fan? Why are you bothering yourself with keeping up with an Angels players blog? Man, you just can't stay away from the Angels or their fans. Shouldn't you be off attending to the "virtual lounge"? Mr virtual bartender?

John, Tough start. You'll be back fine for your next. good luck the rest of the season

Shitty outing but I'm a pitcher and I understand that you can't always go out there will full strength and your best stuff, shit happens, but good try man. I was sporting my Lackey 41 jersey there tonight against the Skankees, more people need to buy them I've only seen one other Lackey jersey before, enough with the Guerrero jerseys he's not the only guy on the team. Great game tonight, I booed the Yanks extra loud and cheered the Angels extra loud, somebody's got to since most Angels fans are more worried about the beach balls than the actual game lol. Good luck Wednesday against the Yanks, gotta win to keep those Cy Young hopes alive. On a side note thanks for signing by ball a few years ago, you could have easily Andersoned me but did not. Sorry for the long rambling comment just really pumped after the win tonight. Did you or anybody else on the team talk to Jose today?

Yeah, Josey came over to see some of us before the game. It was weird to see him in that uniform after wearing Angel red for so long.

Andersoned? Whats that? You talking about the Red Sox game where GA didn't give the ball to those fans? Personally, I LOVED that. Boston fans are obnoxious, loudmouth drunks. I bet GA was taking a ton of crap from them the entire game. It was awesome to see him pretend like he was gonna toss them the ball then put it back in his glove.

Good job john.... I hope Casey is okay.......
