Family

Man, all i can say is if u could meet my family, you could pretty much tell how i am. I grew up not knowing my father, so everyone is on my mom's side. When i was young i stayed with my grandma and she and my grandpa where the ones that got me into baseball 'cause they loved the A's. My whole family did. When i was i kid i can remember being around the T.V watching Dave Stewart on the mound.

My mom was a really good softball player. i loved that she took me to the park to watch her play. My uncles and my aunt played basketball and were all very good in their days.

For the holidays, when we are all together, we play hoops and fight with each other while my grandma tells us to shut up. I think for me thats where i got my love for the game. i remember they would all be hard on me and i couldn't understand. But now it's a good thing cause i'm very hard on myself.

My family til this day says, "Man, Chipper be killin u," and i say "man he kills everybody, but we won." Or they say, "Man, if don't pitch to Barry, i'm going." You have to be tough to make it in my family but in the end they are proud of me and i'm proud of them.

How are things going with the new family in the Motor City?

Bad joke - wish I could delete it. I just read my comment and it's not funny at all. I hope I didn't just ruin this hartwarming post.

Great stuff D-Train. Does your fam travel out to see you during the season? I bet you're looking forward to facing the A's finally.

no not too much. but they've seen me pitch against oak and sf before.

Life is all about family. Thanks for the insight. Too often it seems like people, especially "stars," forget that.

yes sir life is hard i think we just get caught in r own things alot

i have to say, i wish more athletes were like you, D -- it's great that your family helps to keep you grounded. sounds like they give you quite the hard time...but my family's the same way...we learned early on that you can't take life too seriously, or you won't have any fun no matter what you're doing.

yeah thats true.

completely off subject here...but me and a buddy were at a marlins game here in the 'nati in '06...and reggie abercrombie hit a mammoth homer, that we still talk about to this day...we honestly thought it was going to leave the yard altogether. man, that was a blast and a half...one of those stewardess/in-flight movie kind of shots.

sounds like a tight family that keeps you straight. We've never met but I'm born and raised in Alameda. A little older then you but I always heard good things about you moms. How she always would make it to your games even though she was working. Keep up the good work and look forward to you tearing up the AL! You do know that the China Hut is no longer there on lincoln & webster. That was the best Chinese food in Alameda.

It's kinda funny you mention your family history today because my son and I really got into it in all places than the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store. I bought a beautiful new (actually used) white sofa and love seat and he was supposed to pick it up today. He did pick it up, but we sure got into it. Same thing with him, no dad in his life. He does pretty good though, works real hard, never misses work, supports his kid. I love him and he loves me, but I sure can relate to what you are talking about. I finally had to tell him to "just shut-up". Hah!!!

damn i grew up of that. my thats going to hurt me. my boys family owns a deli on webster and i like nations burger.

Big D, My brother is really hard on me. I offered to fly him to Detroit this summer to watch the Colorado series in June, but he still doesn't want to see me.

Since my brother respects you, can you tell him to go easier on me? :-) MrBest7

yeah keep on him and he will easy up

i can tell you family means alot to you, thats good .You seem like you grew up in a good enviorment !Your story on family meant alot to me i grew up the same way untill my father wanted to come back in my life. But everythings the same going to the park wacting my mom play it was great ! ya and wacthing my mom got me onto softball !! =]

yeah its was fun. yeah mom was pretty good.

Domenicos is on hit for sandwiches. Do you collect your own baseball cards? curious because I just bought some of your minor league cards along with some other former Encinal players too. Got a couple shomari beverly and antwon rollins cards for my project

yeah my boy james family owns that spot its the best. No i dont collect cards fam . not even as a kid.

I just started collecting cards and memorabilia of players from Alameda. got a couple of JR Rider jerseys over the holidays. I recently wrote you but you probably get tons of mail and requests. stay cool!

yeah i will get at the emails soon. be easy

do you think you will start off fast this year? not to be a d1ck but It always seems since that baeball classic you have gotten off to bad starts but you always come around, and it sucks I cant watch you hit no more. You were the best pitcher to watch hit since doc gooden.

i have one the highest winning pct. in april its the rest of the year im worried about lol. and i dont care about hitting

Let me speak for a lot of Tiger fans and say, "We want the D-Train to just focus on pitching. I think everyone on this board realize that Dontrelle is a lot of fun and will fit in well as a great team-mate"

Dontrelle:,
It's nice to a mlb player that has fun in life and is well grounded! Best wishes for a great 2008 season. Too bad the Phillies didn't pick up you in a trade. :)

Nobody's perfect, Dontrelle. We don't expect you to be a 30 game winner. Plus, you'll have the wisdom of Kenny and your new pitching coach, Chuck Hernandez.

Hey I am expecting a 30 win season out of D-train!! Just pulling your leg. I am really looking forward to 2008. Hopefully with the lineup we have, the guys behind you can give you some run support. You just work your magic. Are you still recuperating from the last season? or are you biting at the bit to get on the mound again.

Your new baseball family includes Sheff, Maggs, Pudge, Grandy, Verlander, Jonsey and of course, the Skipper Jim Leyland. Do you think about that?

Sweet to see you care so much about your family. Often at the professional level that's the first thing to go but to see you so down to earth it awesome.

Can't wait to see you ref the basketball game in Detroit!

Mr. Willis, I am the woman who painted the pink and white adorable mirror you bought at the boys & girls club charity...thankyou for their benefit and the compliment to me !! If I can do anything else for your family, please let me know. shepaintsfurniture.com stacey sherman
