Five and a Half Out
Had this post been made a day ago, it likely would have been littered with talks of former Tribe players coming back to haunt us as well as the bullpen blowing yet another lead. Instead, we get to put two games in to one post, and in turn, we get to talk about how the Indians have now came out on top for the second series in a row.
While dropping Saturday's game in extra innings is nothing to be proud of, we need to temper ourselves if we're hoping for sweeps each time out. Taking two-of-three against the Twins and now the Padres is hopefully enough to get these guys going. Twenty-seven hits, and 19 runs in this series. If we want to play the 'what-if' game, we can point the finger at Rafy Perez and Eddie Mujica, but after the year-to-date play that we've seen thus far, i'll take it! The series win over the Padres now places the Indians 5.5 games out of first place; one game behind the second-place Twins. In the last ten games within our division, only the Detroit Tigers have been playing better ball. While that's a scary thought in and of itself, they're still trailing us by half of a game. They're heading to San Francsico while we're about to take on the Colorado Rockies - a series that we desperately need to win. Here's to hoping that Paul Byrd (3-6, 4.89 ERA) turns around from his awful start against the Twins. Colorado isn't exactly the best park for pitchers these days, so Byrd will need to keep the ball on the ground. Thankfully, his opponent Greg Reynolds (1-4, 6.69 ERA) has given up his share of BP over the recent weeks as well. FWIW, Grady Sizemore is now alone in second place on the AL home run list after hitting his 17th yesterday. He's now hitting .266/.378/.529 (.907), with five home runs, eight RBI and seven runs scored over the past five games. Colorado should treat him very kindly. And yes, the picture above is simply to show the awesomeness that was 70s day, regardless of the outcome. How cool are those jerseys?
