Future Fortunes, Baltimore Orioles

This is a great idea for an ongoing column, which it appears it will be. Vtek is going to be profiling all players 26 or under in each organization.

The first installment...the Baltimore Orioles. Not the deepest in regards to depth, but they do have some solid pitching prospects who could be breaking through in 2007. Of note are Hayden Penn, Adam Loewen, and of course Daniel Cabrera. None of the three have had consistent success at the major league level, but as you'll read, all have the pedigree to dominate and have a chance to be front of the rotation starters. They also have all had limited, but unsuccessful stints with big league club which means two things. One, they've gained valuable experience and two, they'll most likely be undervalued in '07 because they haven't stormed though the league like Francisco Liriano or Jered Weaver. The majority of pitchers, even the great ones, hit bumps in the road before they put it all together. Keep an eye on these guys.

how can you mention baltimore prospects without saying reimold?

Reimold's a good prospect, but he's years away from making a contribution. You're right though, he could have been mentioned here. I guess Vtek decided to discuss other outfielders like Majewski and Markakis because they were under 26 and had a much greater shot at helping the organizition in the near future. Conservatively speaking, Reimold might not see major league action until 2008.
