Hooters Girls, Superman - It's that time of the year

Heard about Chad Billingsley's Masquarade Party story, about dressing up like Robin Hood on one of their road trips. Well, it's time for our guys to break out their best dresses too. Each year we make the rookies dress up on one of the last road trips - last year there was a Hooters Girl, one year Superman. Jered Weaver had to dress up like a chick. He was hamming it up pretty good. I think he enjoyed it a little too much.

One of the guys buys the costumes, last year Vlad did it, then we take their clothes out of their bags and put the costumes in. They have to wear them from the time they leave the clubhouse to the time we get to the hotel. They'll walk to the bus, past all the fans, they'll go to the edge of the parking lot to sign autographs. They also have to carry all the drinks from the clubhouse to the buses and then the buses to the plane. It's nothing too serious but it's pretty funny stuff.

We need photos!

Weaver could definitely pass as a chick. Long flowing hair, slim physique, girly throwing motion

Don't forget freakishly huge hands. I love that on a woman.

Oh hell yes. You must post photos. That's gotta be hilarious.

Was this little escapade going on when you were a rookie? What other kind of rookie initiations did you have to go through? I imagine y'all have come up with some pretty interesting stuff to put the rookies through. But hey, what better way to exercise seniority then to give the new guys a little hell.

As for Weaver...NEVER let him live that down.

Vladdy bought the costumes again this year, guys!!!!!! Brandon Wood told me this as he came out to sign autos for the couple hundred fans out by the player's parking lot!! It was HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!! Lackey better put some pics up here, or the Angels better put some up on the web for us, cause I can't tell you how great it was!!!!!!!!!

WHOO HOO BABY! Way to go John you big Texan!

LOL I love the rookie hazing. It's great watching them dress up in the costumes. Also, John.......once again, like you've done all year, getting the job done when we need it most. Great outing today, great freakin win!
2007 AL WEST DIVISION CHAMPS BABY!

How about Elvis?
Congrats John on a great season and another BIG GAME win

What I wanna know is...what were you dressed up as when you were a rookie???
Great game yesterday! =) CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! You were awesome!

When a baseball player, heck, an athelete, can show his or her human side in a positive manner when they are off the playing field is wonderful. Way to go John. Way to go Angels for having some fun. And yes, PHOTOS are a MUST!!!!

As for this article...I'd be very interested to know what you had to do only a few years ago! Maybe it had nothing to do with dressing up and temporary public humiliation, but I'm sure it was great!

As for today's game... I just got home a little over an hour ago - what an amazing game! I was lucky enough to see Friday's, Saturday's and today's games, and let me tell you how excited I was when I found out you'd be starting today! Thank you for being down to earth and doing something like this to keep in touch with your fans. You're amazing! :)

CONGRATULATIONS! I'm so stoked that the Division was clinched today! Good luck on the road trip. I see home field advantage in your future for sure. But aside from the celebration in my home tonight and how I cannot wait to go and watch the playoffs...I have to ask, what'd they make you do???

What kind of dress did you wear in your rookie year?

Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations!
I really enjoyed Angels' victory at stadium. V(^o^)V

Get some pics up of it!

Congratulations John on number 18 - Awesome Pitching.....and Congrats on the AL West Campionship - Way to Go.

we definetly need pictures!!!!

Watching you right now, hopefully by the time you read this you've got 19 wins and an ERA under 3, which might be good enough to beat Beckett for the Cy Young Award. Funny story, enjoyed your run in during Jered's interview during the celebration in the clubhouse. Thanks for signing my ball on the rainy day last Saturday, first rain delay at Anaheim Stadium since 1995. Good luck next week in the playoffs, hopefully Kelvim's got his shit together for it by then.

Sox can hit Lackey
Angels ace John Lackey, who'll pitch Game 1 against Boston, finished the season with an 19-9 record and a 3.01 ERA, the lowest in the American League. However, the Red Sox have thrived against the righthander in two starts this season. Lackey is 0-2 with an 8.38 ERA (9 runs allowed in 9 2/3 innings) vs. Boston in 2007. Can Lackey step-up stop Ortiz Drew, and Youkilis who handled him well in the past?
Every Espn Expert is picking The Redsox to win this series in four or five... Angels needs to pitch, be aggressive on the bases.

You go, Big John. We're pulling for you.

Yeah, who's got the camera? We need some press coverage of this.

Hi John,

i'm new to the blog but wanted to wish you luck !!! I'm watching the whole way and LOVE the Angels~ I love to watch you pitch and it inspires me in my figure - skating... (hey now no jokes!)... if i was a guy i'd be in baseball but i didn't get that chance... I l I love it when you lick your finger after getting an out - that cracks me up (like you're saying 1 down....) Keep the passion alive!!!! -Renee

I'm watching you pitch against the Sox as we speak. It's the 2nd inning and you're down 1-0 after Youkilis' HR. :-(
Hope you guys win. Can't bring myself to ever root for the Sox. You guys always give my Yankees trouble in the playoffs though. Good luck this series.

we need to start winning games, putting us in a 4-0 hole really killed the offense, Whats the deal with boston and pitching poorly?

I don't think the offense was killed, I think it committed suicide...4 runs?...John kept us in the game, too bad the offense didn't pick him up

what did you guys make jeff mathis do????

Big John, best of luck tomorrow to you and the Angels. May you all turn this series around and get to the ALCS! GO ANGELS!
