The Race Is On

As a player I really like being in a good race because the sense of urgency is always there. Seattle is definitely providing it. They are tough. No matter how well we play or what we do they are right there with us.

It would be nice to be able to clinch early because it allows you to get some guys healed up from the long season. But obviously that's not going to happen. We are going to have to play well down to the end.

As close as this race is those head to heads coming up with Seattle are really big. We have two left. We have to finish this homestand strong against Toronto because it leads right into a road trip to Seattle. We definitely have our work cut out for us.

It's going to be a good race, but I have confidence in our Halos....Go get 'em John!

It's odd to see you guys in a race with Seattle and not Oakland like the past few years. Seattle certaintly has proven they have what it takes to make a run at it as of late.

Absolutely â€" they are right on our tail for a reason. Good hitting club with a great bullpen. They get just enough from there starters to get to that bullpen.

what is it with the Blue jays? These guys always beat the Halos. I'm sick of that freakin team. ANgels need to win tomorrow JUST to get a split at home, where they have the best home record, and the Jays have an awful road record. Bleh, needed to take 3 of 4 from them IMO. Either way, missed a golden opportunity to gain a game tonight. Esco needs to be lights out tomorow and the offense needs to string some hits together with a RISP

you got the big matchup on Monday, John. Need you to help get the team started on the right track and put some distance between yourselves and Seattle. A sweep would be FANTASTIC but really, just gotta get 2 of 3.

I knew Escobar would be on his game. I think we are something like 9-2 in games he pitches after a loss. For some reason, the Blue Jays always give us fits, especially at their place. They always seem to play us tough.

I'm thrilled to be getting the ball for the first game of the series. I know how important it will be to come out strong in the first game and set the tone.

Well the weekend wasn't so bad afterall! Ended up picking up a game on Seattle since they lost on Sunday. Good luck tonight John and hopefully you have an outing like the one you had last time in Seattle.

LETS GO ANGELS!

It wouldn't be baseball if the race for the AL wasn't neck and neck. It just wouldn't be as fun or exciting.

I watched you pitch on Wednesday against the Yanks. You didn't pitch bad at all. But, like they say, that's over and done with.

Good luck on Monday with Seattle. Go kick some ass.

Thanks much! I've really put that last start behind me and have begun zeroing in on the Mariners. I will be ready to go.

At least Oakland isn't making it's annoying "Let's win 30 out of 33 after the All Star Break" streak they seem to go on every year.

As an A's fan, it's difficult for me to say this, but good luck! :)

No kidding, the A's have been unreal the last few seasons after the break. Thanks for the well wishes.

We need a win today. Whats so great about the Angels is that they are a real team. Everyone contributes. And you can see the spirit on the bench when somebody does something to help the team. Today the team will get it together with there leader Mike S. and beat the Blue Jays.

sometimes its that sense of urgency that can make or break a team but you guys work so well as a team you won't be the ones to break. Good Luck and kick some ass

I think your rotation will end up being better down the stretch than the Mariners. But, how many guys on the team are the kind of players who tense up too much? Ask the Phillies how many they have, right now its 25.

I wish you every success.
Ganbatte! (This is a word of encouragement in my country)

You've got these guys, John. Trust your stuff! Thanks for keeping us on the edge of our seats going into September :)

Complete game shutout? Are you kidding me? You've been holding out on us! :) GA provides the offense and you shut em down. Great game made even better since it was the legacy Angels players who starred tonight. A sweep and the team is 5 up, go get em!

now thats what I'm talking about! Knew you would start this series off well for the team. Great outing today, John. You love pitching in big games, and while its only August 27th, this is a huge series. You started it off about the best way possible. Hopefully the rest of the starters this series, the young guys(Ervin, Weaver) can feed off of the momentum you provided. You haven't allowed a run to the M's the entire season. Bet you didn't know that. Awesome job, once again!

Go get them today Big John

LACKY THE THING IS THAT SEATTLE IS A GOOD TEAM
BUT THE ANGELS ARE EVEN BETTER
I WATCH EVERY GAME AND YOU GUYS ARE DOING GREAT.....
JUST KEEP ON DOING WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN DOING THIS WHOLE SEOSEN AND YOU GUYS
WILL CONTINUE GOING UP!!!!
GREAT JOB JOHN!!!!!

Im going to the angels on sunday when Big John Lackey pitches! and i really really hope angels clinch the West when i go and big john lackey gets the win! GO ANGELS!

do you have a contractor who could send me autographed pictures?
