The following Phillies need not re-apply

The list of guys I don't need to see back next year is so long it is probably easier for them to simply swap the entire roster for some other underachieving team. Here's who I don't need/want to see back next year.

Ryan Howard - has the ultimate excuse of being a power hitting first baseman. Way too expensive and no longer provides fun and/or excitement when he comes up to bat.

Pat Burrell - gives you a good month every year, then fades into uselessness. Also too expensive. Only slightly better at fielding than his Pat Burrell Rule 7th inning defensive replacement.Yes, you read that correctly. See the next entry for clarification.

So Taguchi - More like So What. As a defensive replacement he is actually worse than the player he comes in for. Also never, ever gets a hit.

Jayson Werth - If he's still with us next year it's because Ruben Amaro Jr. doesn't know how to trade for pitching, either.

Brett Myers - Sucks in the rotation, sucks in the pen. Why is he still here?

Tom Gordon - Sucks. Refuses to pitch one inning that doesn't become a nailbiter. Usually f*cks up. Get him the hell outta here.

Ryan Madsen - Was once considered a future starter. When he sucked at that they put him the 'pen. Useless.

Adam Eaton - Has publicly stated that he had his best stuff....after giving up 6 homeruns in four innings. 'nuff said.

Steve Smith/Milt Thompson - You've seen the Herrs Potato Chip commercial with the third base coach wiping his greasy hands all over his shirt thereby confusing the runner at first. That is not an actor. Milt Thompson is a fine hitting coach. Just don't ask him how to get Ryan Howard to stop swinging at the first three pitches he sees.

Carlos Ruiz - Would make a great catcher for the iron pigs. Also, will feel right at home in Allentown. Still wouldn't get a damn hit when it mattered.

Great use of the word "Sucks"

Are you kidding about Burrell? He's been our most consistent player. Myers was great in the pen, Werth is a terrific player to have. Ryan Madson has been our 3rd best RP behind Durbin and Lidge, and was our best RP last year, yet you guys continue to say he sucks. Eaton was first on the team in quality starts last week, is probably 2nd now. And give Howard more than the cold months where he always struggled. Wait until July, August, and September, where he is UNSTOPPABLE. He did the same exact thing last year. His numbers are almost the same from this time last year.

Maybe it's time to get a left fielder that doesn't compel the manager to pull him in the seventh inning of close games. Myers wasn't great in the bullpen. He did about as well as Gordon. Madson is a garbage time inning filler. He does not make appearances in close games because he falls apart in tight situations.

Myers wasn't great? Watch a game next time. And Madson ended up being our setup guy last year after Gordon went down, or at worst, the 7th inning guy.

And if you're going to get rid of someone, why not Jenkins? He's supposed to hit for power, and he hasn't. He's hitting in the .240s, he's slow, he can't field, he can't throw. Burrell at least can field when he gets to the ball and has a great arm.

In a "contract year" Burrell is continuing to prove that his best effort has a one month time limit.Beyond that, why re-sign him.......well, I will grant you that much depends on what kind of contract he will try to demand. As for Jenkins, I did not include him because he's little more than a glorified bench player. That might not be what mgmt. told us when he was aquired but really, if he didn't make the line-up for a week or two would we notice/care. So as a utility/platoon guy I'm ok with keeping him around.Yeah, I've seen the stats, but I've also seen some clutch hitting and fielding...........Myers, no one can convince me that this guy belongs on our staff.Third worst ERA in the national league. After 3+ seasons no one knows what role this guy fits into. Not many pitchers confuse mgmt. about what their capabilities are the way Myers does.I believe it is because he is horrible as a starter and substantially less than great, as you say, at closing. And really it's a moot point what with Lidge getting it done. What would you do? Pay Myers starter cash to be a late inning guy?We need to be spending that $$$ on starting pitching, espescially with a lack of farm team prospects. This is also my reason for thinking that Ryan Howard will become an overvalued commodity by the end of the year.We have a larger need for true starting pitching than another longball hitter.

Ryan Howard - the strikeouts do need to be cut down but highest runs batted in on the team and in the NL...6th in the NL for homers...i absolutly want him in the lineup---
Pat Burrell - highest on base percentage on the team and 4th in the NL...6th in the NL for homers...you need him in the lineup---
Ryan Madsen - second most relief appearances and a 3.00 era...thats pretty damn good---
Tom Gordon - he is getting old and sometimes you do have to hold your breath when hes out there but take away the two terrible appearances opening day against washington and a few weeks ago against florida and hes given up only 6 runs in 26 innings which amounts to a 2.08 era...he also had 12 straight appearances without giving up a run...ill take that---
Brett Myers - was very solid in the pen last year with a 2.88 era and 21 saves...if we can face the fact that hes a nut case and can only psych himself up for one inning then hes got a career as a relief pitcher...i agree he doesnt have the mindset to be a starter---
Jayson Werth - he is a solid platoon man or bench player---
Carols Ruiz / So Taguchi / Adam Eaton / Steve Smith - i agree with you these 4 are worthless and should be collecting unemployment checks next year

We could probably package Ruiz,Myers and Gordon for a new batboy.

Right on Mom. That's pretty much how I feel at this point, even after the win tonight. sigh..............what can we do but keep watching and hoping that somebody on this team decides to be a great ball player for 162 games.Other teams have them. Why can't we?

Dude you are retarded? Pat Burrell he is second in the whole League in Walks, 6th in OBP, and tied for 4th in Homeruns, plus he is batting 275, which I will take for a power hitter. And you talk about his feilding? He has zero errors, 6 outfield assists and 1 double play. He has be awesome this year, Madson and Ruiz have also done well,. Werth has been great when he has been in there and Eaton has the worse run support in the league. Why don't you actually watch the games and you would know this.

I stand corrected.Everyone on this team is a f*cking all star. You are right I should watch the games.Yes.Carlos Ruiz is a hall of famer. In fact the battery of Ruiz/Eaton will go down in history as the best ever. If only I had the powerful wisdom of gubers33.............................
