love for the game.

man i was never really good in english but i hope u feel this story.

baseball is such a wonderful sport and its been so good to me in so many ways. ive been able to travel and see so many great things as well as meet so many great people with baseball. i will never forget when i was 12 and for xmas i got one gift and it was a tpx bat . that was the best gift ever for me and i think my mother understood that i really loved the game. jimmy rollins at this time was the man in my hood and he was doing great things. to see that i said to myself i want to be like him. his dad used to take us to the park and video tape us hitting and we would b out there all day because we just loved the game. in high school i worked so hard with my boys cause we wanted to b the best and it payed off but more because we loved being out there. baseball is a game where u can b from anywhere and be any shape and be good at it. i think thats why we love it cause we r not all the same. i love baseball cause it can teach u about life like how to act when u fail and how to play with others and how u can work hard and be something. hell i was about to go to japan and play against their best and trust me japan is a long way from oakland. like i said god has blessed me with baseball and i was always have a deep love for the game.

Whatitdo D? Welcome to the yard. Being from The Bay, I must say that it is a pleasure to see you and CC holding it down for us these past few seasons. And I'm sure I'm not the only one that wishes it had been the Giants or A's that were the team that picked you up. Anyway, I hope that things work out great in Detroit. And check us out when you're on the road and need a quick dose of East Bay culture.

That's cool that you played ball with Jimmy Rollins growing up.

He's three or four years older than you. How did you two become friends? You weren't playing on the same team, were you?

i knew jroll when i was little . we played more basketball then baseball but his brother i played with in high school. i tell everyone that the bay made me. i rock hella bay stuff in miami all the time

Make sure you let everyone in Motor City know that the Warriors are better than the Pistons.

Baron & Co. are going to get it done this year in the playoffs!

hahahahhaha yeah i love gs. if u look at my pics you will see me and cc at the game against the pistons

I saw that. It's nice. Hopefully next year you'll be the one with the Cy Young Warriors jersey!

yeah thats the plan. but i was very happy for him i think more than he was. we always talk about baseball and pitching. he helps me alot

What sorts of things does C.C. help you with?

Certainly not the leg kick. You got that down already, D.

Be careful that he doesn't turn into a shade tree and come with faulty advice now that you'll be facing each other so many times a year!

well like what certain hitters like to do and training things i can do stuff like that can really help me cause were both left handed

naw i dont worry about that. hes a real cat and me and him r tight. not too many black pitchers

I was just joking, bruh. You two are the legacy. My grandfather was the business manager for a Negro League in the 1920s. What you two are doing make a lot of people proud.

My bad, not the whole league, but a Negro League team: The Nashville Elite Giants.

yeah i feel that and thanks . yeah i think next time time i write im going to talk about that. its a big reason why we work so hard.

Looking forward to reading more about that. I'm curious if you have any ideas about how to make baseball more popular in the black community as well. It seems like there's a whole marketing task at hand that the league is really just sort of leaning on cats like you and CC to handle, at least somewhat. Anyway, it's an interesting conversation for sure.

It's really cool that you are doing this blogging thing Dontrelle. Keep up the good work!

thanks fam. its cool to interact with fans . like i said im here for u guys so hopeful i can build a huge fan base the 1st of the year im going to start hookin people up with cool stuff cause im going to ask you guys questions about the game

Awesome. We need more baseball guys in the yard. Spread the word, D!!! See if you can get Miggy to take a break from Dominos and chime in. How about a little Magglio or Shef or The Mayor, Curtis Granderson, Mr. 30-30-30-30-30-30-30 himself???

how's mexico?

hahahahaah we will see . man this is the most ive ever been on line so we will see. who would u like to see in baseball in the yard

Being that I'm an O's fan: Erik Bedard and Nick Markakis.

Get CC up in here!

hahahhaah i dont know maybe he would do it

He's probably too busy with all the Toyota of Vallejo commercials!

I graduated from Oakland Tech. We some had greats too. From old schoolers like Clint Eastwood to my man Rickey Henderson. Also fellow Yard Barker, Marshawn Lynch.

yeah oakland tect always gotem. when we played them in hope they where ranked and we beat them 66-63 and i had 20. they had some kid that went to miami for hoop

You ever play Baron Davis one on one in a game of basketball?

naw and i wouldnt want to. that boom dizzzle

Check out this article on Bleacher Report about your trade to the Tigers:

http://www.bleacherreport.com/articles/4519

They guy is pretty hard on you for the last couple years, but says a lot of it may be due to other factors, and that your move to Detroit and the new pitcher's park and better defense behind you may lead to better chance of success for you.

What do you think of this analysis, and this type of using more in-depth sabermetrics to analyze baseball stats in general?
