Watch: WSU EDGE Ron Stone Jr. discusses his former Cougar and new ASU coaches Brian Ward and A.J. Cooper
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

After playing under new ASU defensive coordinator Brian Ward and linebacker/ defensive run game coordinator coach A.J. Cooper at Washington State, star Cougar edge rusher Ron Stone Jr. talks to Burn City Sports college sports insider Brendan Mau about the two coaches and what they will bring to the Sun Devils.

Full Q&A:

Brendan: My name is Brendan Mau with Burn City Sports here at Pac-12 Media Day in Las Vegas. I’m here with Washington State defensive lineman Ron Stone Jr. Ron, I just want to get your thoughts for ASU fans: what can they expect out of Brian Ward and A.J. Cooper?

Ron: Yeah, Brian Ward’s an experienced coach. He’s really good at what he does. I’m excited to see the progress that he makes and the changes that he makes at ASU and Coop, he’s a great coach and a great personality and a great guy, you just want to be around. So I know that the guys are probably super excited. And I’m glad they got two really good coaches, and I’m looking forward to it.

Brendan: Yeah, and then along the same lines is gonna be tough to face him if you play ASU?

Ron: I mean, I play defense, so I couldn’t really care that much. But no, we kind of talked about it earlier, it’s always exciting playing against people that you know. Makes you want to do them that much more just. So I mean, nothing too crazy. I’m excited to be able to see them just say what’s up to them, talk to them, but outside of that still want to get to get the job done.

Brendan: Yeah. I mean, what do you think is the opportunity for him? It’s like a whole new coaching staff, he gets to implement his kind of defense. How’s that gonna work?

Ron: I think it’s great. He’s definitely earned it. He’s been a great coordinator over the past few years, and his resume shows that. So, I mean, I think he’s gonna put the right pieces in place.

Brendan: Alright, I appreciate you.
