whats good everyone this is your boy d nice saying hello. As u can see im now part of the yardbarker family and im here to give u whatever u need in world of sports. hahahahah just playin, like i know anything besides baseball but i will say i do love sports and i love to talk about them so whenever u want to hit me up i will get back u asap. durling the course of the year i will talk about things that are on my head and things that u want to talk about as well.

. THE TRADE

Its crazy how it can happen anytime anywhere . Man i get off a plane in mexico with my family and everyone is callin me like something bad happened but i didnt know until my agent called and told me. I thought he was playin but then i saw it on t.v and for a second i was like ''damn for real" then i was like "well lets do it baby boy '' . My family didnt know how i would take it so they didnt know how to act so it was kinda funny. It feels good that someone else wants u but at the same time i felt like i didnt want to leave. But i do understand that moves r made alot in the game and now im apart of one once again.

we are surely going to miss you in Florida, D-Train. The Marlins don't know what they're losing. Good luck tearing it up in Detroit.

Hey D Train, i'm a huge fan of yours and the way you play the game everyday.. I live in New Zealand, so I don't get a chance to see you pitching live, but anytime I get the chance to catch one of your games, I do. Can't wait to see you playing for the Tigers with another one of my favourite players - Pudge.
If you ever get a chance to do some travelling, come on down to N.Z, it's beautiful man !! Good luck for the season !

True dat. Rep the AL well, D-Train

Dontrelle you are the man. I'm a big Tigers fan and you are going to love it. You are going to be a fan favorite and you will now get tons of run support. Good luck this season and stay healthy.

nice to see ya in the yard d nice. you are going to be big in detroit.

Just think about it this way, now you get to sport a sick-looking old english D all the time. pretty sweet, if you ask me...

D

Glad to see you on Yardbarker, and even happier to see you won't be playing in the JV league anymore. Your old teammate, Josh Beckett, will tell you about how deceptively harder pitching in the AL is.

Good luck, and I hope to see you pitch when the Tigers come to Fenway!

Report back to us and tell us what it's like to play home games in front of fans!

Glad to have you come to Detroit, Dontrelle, we'll love you here!! Just what we need at Comerica!!!! I must say I'm overjoyed at our chances for a World Series!!
Welcome to the Tigers family!

We're going to miss you Dontrelle. You were a real class act. I wish you and Miguel nothing but success in Detroit. Sorry you had to be tossed to the curb by an owner who does not deserve to own a major league franchise.

Dontrelle! So glad your in the AL.. now you will get to come back to your hometown(OAKLAND) more often. Detroit's gunna be scary good this year..

Now I have even more of a reason to sport my Detroit Tigers hat.

Welcome to the Yard, D!

I hates the tigers

hahahahha well the d is big time and i love the city im just wondering what number im going to b

I was hoping to see you in Yankee pinstripes. Oh, well....Anywhoo....best wishes

I think it's a good move for you, and at least you get to go with a teammate. You'll be a great add for them and have a better shot at winning another World Series title. Good luck.

We'll miss you down here Dontrelle, I wear the number 35 just like you do. I have 2 Tigers fan friends, and they were going nuts as i cried inside. Oh well, Business is Business, we hope to see you back down here again soon.

-Michael, Loyal marlins Fan

D-Train
From a Marlin's fan. . . . .I will always remember you and root for you no matter what. You are a class act and I hope the best for you. Hate that we lost you, a player like you should begin his career and retire from the same franchise.

D, I'm excited for you to go to a place like Detroit. Maybe bring home a ring soon? How do you feel about not hitting anymore since you're going to the AL? Will that be weird for you?

yeah well when first got to the bigs with the marlins i wanted to finish with them. but after two year with them i was on the trading block for my last 3 so i figure with right deal i could leave . miggy and i talked about it for a while but never really believe it would happen

Another question, coming from a Bay Area gal... growing up in Alameda were you a Giants or an A's kind of guy?

both at that time i stayed in oakland so i was a a's fan more. 89 battle of the bay is the reson i played baseball

Great situation for you...we in Boston always wanted you for last four years...D-town is loaded now...I guess we have to het Santana or Haren...on paper, you guys have it going on!...congrats...your rotation: lethal...props and here's to a hard fought season with us Sox, Y'all, Angels, and those lovely Yankees...peace

yo D. I just heard a rumor that the tigers might consider flipping you to the mets. That would be awesome. U hear ne thing about that.

no i didnt hear anything about that . i dont read the papers and this is the most ive been online so u guys have to keep me posted

"According to Sweeney Murti on WFAN, the Tigers have approached the Mets about Dontrelle Willis, with Ivan Rodriguez also perhaps being involved."

I think that's fluff made up by a NY reporter. I live in Detroit, and the Tigers do want to move Inge, but do not want to deal Dontrelle. Dontrelle, I am so excited that you are coming here. You have no idea, fanwise, what is in store for you. Detroit is the best sports city in America (and the Sporting News agrees). You will play in front of 40,000 baseball crazy blue-collar workhorses...but with that in mind, unlike NY, we love our players. By the way, when you move here (if only during the season), check out Royal Oak or Birmingham, both are hip towns and not too far from the stadium. Peace!

From ESPN: "After the Marlins traded LHP Dontrelle Willis and slugger Miguel Cabrera to Detroit in an eight-player deal, Minaya said Willis was not made available to the Mets -- probably because they're in the same division as Florida."

Dontrelle, I am HUGE fan of yours. I'm going to miss you down here in Miami. Thanks for helping us win the 2003 World Series and best of luck. I'm still rooting for you.

Hey man, you're really getting the hang of this site. Already commenting on everyone else's articles. You're setting the standard in short order. Good stuff.

thanks boss . it was fun in the mia and it still will b my home. as a fan why do u think people dont come to marlins games

Personally I do not think a stadium is going to help the situation. The owner is the problem and he is trying to do to the Marlins exactly what he did to the Expos. As soon as we get a BASEBALL owner in control of this team and not a painting dealer, we may get some interest back in this team.

It's guys like you and Miggy getting traded that is causing Marlins fans to jump ship. How can we build a tradition down here when there are no players left from the 2003 or 1997 WS? This recycling of players is nauseating.

It's pathetic. Boston has baseball tradition and so does New York. Miami just has a businessman trying to fill his pockets at the expense of big traditionalists like the Sox and Yanks.

Enjoy your new digs D-Train. Your a class act.

1. The location of the stadium, it's too far north for people in south dade where a lot of the suburbs are
2. The weather, days are hot, nights are humid, and there is always a threat of rain
3. Most diehard baseball fans in Miami are out of towners who like the teams up north.

It may not seem that big of a deal to go to one game, but trying to draw big crowds 81 days a year is tough but still doable in my opinion.

Dontrelle -
I'm a former Marlins season ticket holder and I never will be again. I've been to major league games in over 20 stadiums (and a bunch of minor league parks too).
In addition to all the reasons people usually list (weather, distance, etc), I think the biggest thing is how the team (management -- not the players) treats the fans. The front office staff is horrible. They are rude to customers. They are unhelpful.
I'd rather spend my money on the Extra Innings package and a great TV at home (and a road trip to another city for a few games each summer) instead of putting money in those owners pockets.

Dontrelle, shutup the ESPN analysts and get back to being a beast. Not a huge baseball fan as I'm an Orioles fan, too bad for me you couldn't make your way here. I'll be rooting for you guys for sure this year to knock off the yankees and redsox. Good luck in Detroit.
PS- I'm sure your fellow yardbarker Bart Scott is happy.

Nice to see you on Yardbarker, who made you join? By the way good luck man!

yeah i feel that . im workin hard in the offseason like always . last year we had alot if guys hurtin that still played and i was one of them . but f it , u go out there and leave it on the field and in the end you know u can look back and say you did all that u can do

Some of the other guys like Mike Conley play videogames, you?

ive always kinda wanted to do something like this but didnt cause im not a huge online guy but i think its good to talk to fans just because they need to know the player more casue the media sometime doesnt say what the player is

Hey Dontrelle,
I am happy that you are finally on a team where ownership can give you the players around you that you derserve. A few questions for you. What are your thoughts on being traded along with Miggy? Do you have any ideas on how you are going to adjust with being in the AL? Who are you most looking forward to facing? Im sorry, i have a bunch of questions. You have been my favorite marlin since 2004, I love the way you play the game. anyway, Thanks in advance for answering my questions, and i have alot more if your willing to let me ask them

People don't come to marlins games because of this. The players you grow to love seem always to be traded for prospects. It is unbearable as a devoted fan. Thanks for having this blog, I never imagined i would be able to Chat with Dontrelle Willis

dtrain u will be missed here in south fla i wish you the best form section 153 seat 19 row 28 disabled seating meating you has to be one of the highlights of my life i wish you the best in your career as well as in life

D- going to miss seeing you in a marlins uniform but what can you do given the situation down here. I know you are a Heat fan, whats your thought on them this year, and you think they will make the playoffs?

Welcome to the American League. To bad you can swing the stick anymore. Good luck in the motor city.

well the heat start slow alot but they will be in it in the end. thanks for the support but dont give up on dan uggla and wiliingham and mike jacbos. its a good group of guys and u never know i might b back like conine

Dontrelle, good luck with the Tigers. You & Miguel Cabrera + Detroit Tigers = AL Championship? What are your goals going into 2008? As a Cubs fan, I LOVE seeing you go to the AL. I hope you can torment the White Sox!

Dontrelle, im gunna miss you seeing you in Teal

D-Train- Congrats on the move. It will be great to see you pitching for a playoff team again. And Thank God you wont be shutting down my Mets anymore.

hey D........do you like the GS warriors now that they are good?

How I wish Conine would come back. Just wondering, would you ever be able to answer some emailed questions for my school newspaper? I know my school has alot of Marlin Fans and you were a fan favorite. Your insight on the trade would be invaluable

Hahaha, that's right. In a couple years when Hanley's working on his back-to-back MVP and we finally get a whole year of healthy pitchers, we're going to need you back as the grizzled vet, like with Niner in 03. Dugout said it best: trade the Train, and you trade ya brain.

d thanks for the great times.......... your a
