Welcome to the Bigs, Part I (of II?)

The Cubs have called up 4 guys to supplement the team, all from Iowa, added two guys from the D.L., and made a few other roster moves, all of which will be detailed here. This is the first of likely two groups coming to Chicago...the Cubs are expected to make another selection after the I-Cubs   more...

The 8/31 Exemption (and How to Use It)

August 31st is an important date for contending MLB teams, because that's the date that determines eligibility for post-season rosters. To be eligible to play in the MLB post-season, a player must be on the club's 25-man roster or 15-day or 60-day DL as of 8/31. However, any player   more...

Ranking MLB Catchers : You Rank Them, You Win!!!

Wow!!! After posting the idea of winning a $25 Gift Card to Best Buy for the first entry that lists all 30 players and ranks them correctly yesterday, my e-mail was flooded by you guys. So good news/bad news out of that. The bad news is, instead of you ranking the Short Stops, you'll be ranking   more...

A's Jason Kendall traded to Cubs!

The A's said goodbye to Jason Kendall today, as they traded the struggling catcher to the Chicago Cubs for catcher Rob Bowen and minor league lefty Jerry Blevins. Kendall, from what I remember, used to be a fan favorite before his hitting woes hit an all-time high. He was hitting .226 and is being   more...

All Overrated Team

My last post covered the All Underrated Team now let's take a look at my all overrated team. Most of these guys come from big markets.C Jason Kendall A's: With a .217 Avg. (.186 at home) and 1 HR and 20 RBIs to his credit, he's either great on defense or he's dating the manager's daughter.1B   more...

Notes from a ballgame: ALCS Game 2

The trio in the booth can't seem to agree on how to pronounce Craig Monroe's last name. Is it MON-roe or mon-ROE? At least Steve Lyons is consistent. He goes with MON-roe, and also refers to the Tigers hometown as DEE-troit. Know what? They should ask the cops who arrested him for stealing that   more...

Notes from a ballgame

Inspired by vintage Simmons and MJD, a humorous running record of the ALCS Game 1. "Lou Piniella on Detroit pitching coach Chuck Hernandez: 'He doesn't teach too much mechanics but he has a very nice message for the kids.' Hey, Joel Zumaya: Crack is wack."

2007 N.L. Central All-Overpaid Team

No particular order... my picks for overpaid players in the N.L. Central. Based on this year's production only.

Overpaid baseball players

A good list of players who made an absurd amount of cash for doing next to nothing last year. Does it really pay to have a huge payroll. One could argue that it doesn't matter how much your payroll is it's the amount of talent you got on your side that matters.

2008 Fantasy Catcher Rankings: NL Central

A better way to visualize hitters' stats.

As I was poring over 2006 stats for the A's, something hit me. The lines of numbers that I was looking at weren't really giving me an easy visual comparison. I wanted to know how the hitter's numbers stacked up against his teammates, and the league averages. It wasn't easy to just glance at the   more...

The Good, the Bad and the Down-Right Ugly: Free Agent Signings 2008

There were some god-awful contracts handed out this off-season and a few good ones as well. Baseball Mastermind covers the best and the worst free agent signings this off-season.

Sleepers & Busters: 2008 Catchers Edition

Alright folks, dust the Cheeto crumbs off of your keyboards, it's time for fantasy baseball again. Whether you play rotisserie, head-to-head, or points, there's one position that will always be like the tonsils of your team. You don't need them, they don't really seem to do anything, but if you   more...

AL Contenders' Heaviest Weights

Hardball Times takes a look at the washed up disappointments and undeveloped hopefuls that are keeping a handful of teams one step away from contention. Who's missing from this list? Look for Luis Gonzales to be at the top of the NL list.
