Introduction was good, no Pride intro but still good.

The announce team was good. Any time I hear Mauro is a good night of fights.

Explanation of the rules with Frank Shamrock was good.

Phil Baroni's ring entrance was great, it took almost ten minutes for him to get to the ring. And every second of it was great! His robe was spectacular too.

Commercial for Street Fighter IV. Should be Street Fighter 7,939 but who's counting? There were a lot of commercials but it should be expected. Just remember, you're getting to see a great card for free. How can you complain about that?

The quality of the video interviews was great.

I like the fact that they didn't shy away from the fact that Gina did not make weight and has to share about 12 percent of her purse to Kaitlin Young.

Garry Shaw's response to the Lawler and Smith's fight, giving both fighters their winning purse is very nice and shows how well EliteXC treats their athletes.

I love James Thompson's pump action thing he does.

Dislikes:

Introductions are too long. We don't need to know who the judges are for the under card bouts. Only the main event and co-main event should have that kind of build up. We also don't need to see the ref read the rules to the under card fights. Theres nothing impressive with Rogers and Murphy's stare down. Get rid of the whole build up, people just want these fights to go end as fast as possible so they can see the main event.

The EliteXC girls have to go. I have no desire to see rhythm less girls prance around as if they can dance.

Gina's nick name "Conviction"... enough said. Another thing I don't like how they allow Gina's dad into the cage at the end of each of her fights. All for sappy TV ratings, complete and utter BS. You don't see them allowing Willa Ford in the octagon when Chuck Liddell destroyed Tito Ortiz.

The fans in attendance, the lack of respect they show for the fighters is unbelievable. But thats not EliteXC's fault.

The way the Lawler vs Smith fight ended was very unfortunate, the doctor asked Smith if he could see and his response was "I cant see right now, give me my five minutes and I'll be okay." Being a doctor, you shouldn't tell them you can't see. I understand why the doctor stopped the fight, but they should have allowed him his five minutes.

James Thompson's ears, need I say more?

I definitely don't like how close the camera men get when they're announcing the fighters. I don't want to look up Kimbo's nose and see whats up there.

The ref's performance in the Kimbo vs Thompson fight. Kimbo took a lot of shots and did not block any of them in the second round, then decides to stop the fight after James Thompson gets rocked early in the third round.

I didn't like how abruptly they ended the TV broadcast.

All in all it was a good card. Nothing spectacular but definitely not a bad card. A few bad calls but a good effort by CBS and EliteXC. I cant wait for next time...

They really should have given Scott the entire 5 minutes. They should have checked up on him during and at the end of the 5 minute mark.

I personally think the refs stopped the fights too early. Maybe they stopped the fights because it was on national T.V. but people (like myself) love to see the blood and brutal beatings of another person. I also think Slice would have taken Thompson's "alien" ear completly off his head with another punch.

The Lawler-Scott fight should not have been stopped. The reason they stopped the Kimbo fight was because Kimbo would have lost if he was taken down again. Kimbo is EliteXC's main draw.. having him lose would have set them back plenty. The best fight of the night was Carano-Young... by far. The rest seemed like filler.

i agree, Carano-Young was the best fight. If the Lawler-Scott fight had a natural ending it would have been the fight of the night.

Are you high? Those two bitches slap-boxing is not a good fight. Even with the f-ed up ending, the Lawler-Scott fight was far better.

Any episode of TUF features a far better fight than Carano-Young. They both looked like they had just learned to fight last week.

Dude, those two B*&^ches could kick your ass. I've been watching TUF and some of those fights weren't even as technical or as good as the Carano fight. Who do you think those chicks train with??? Dudes. They have to train with the guys in their GYM.

Ummm, 90% of the people in the audience could also kick my ass, but it doesn't mean they're world class fighters. And just because they train with men doesn't mean they had a good technical fight.

sorry bro, that wasn't slap boxing. That was a good demonstration of muay thai and jiu jitsu. watch the clip over again but pretend that men are fighting... i think you might be biased

I'm gonna have to disagree with you here son. It's sexist for you to deny the level of athleticism that Gina and Kaitlin showed. Sure watching women fight might be different but the respect should be given to any two athletes willing to get in there and fight. Thats speaks volumes in consideration to a lot of individuals who decide to go onto internet boards and give their two cents while drinking a soda and scarfing down a handful of cheetos.

I think they were very tactical and fought better than some male MMA fighters. just to show you an example of worse fights in MMA, take a look at Ultimate fighter's second season. there's an entire show of fights held with less caliber than Gina and Kaitlin

Totally agree Chute, even this season of TUF had less technical fights than the Gina and Kaitlin's fight. Both women have more skills in the palm of their left hands than Dante Rivera can ever imagine having (no disrespect to Dante). Female mma athletes often have to train harder and learn more skills than men simply because females tend to have less strength as a male would in their respective weight class. Watch the fight again and try not to have a caveman's mentality about it. Calling females "B%#ches" is very uncalled for.

dude, gina went for a gogo and almost had it. how is that not technical?

If with absolutely horrific ending to the fight, I'd still put Lawler-Scott over the Carano-Young fight. However, did anyone see the Wilson Reis v. Justin Robbins fight on the undercard? The undercard fights were streamed live online. It wasn't so much a great fight because how competitive it was (because it wasn't) - what was impressive was how dominating and the level of skill Wilson Reis brought to the cage. He reminded me a lot of Anderson Silva.

One more point - I don't think they stopped the Kimbo fight in order to "save" Kimbo. I do think they stopped it a bit prematurely, but Kimbo was beating the "S" out of Thompson. Thompson may have remained standing, but if you saw his eyes after every hit, you could tell no one was home. As far as Kimbo's performance - his skills are OK, but he didn't play it smart at all. He should have ended the fight in the second round - he had Thompson all googly-eyed in the standup game, and Kimbo was throwing bombs. So why the hell would you take a more experienced fighter to the ground? That one mistake nearly cost Kimbo the match - he was lucky Thompson was too gassed to throw any hard punches on the ground.

i'm sorry man, but thompson was pounding Kimbo in the second. Kimbo went limp for a while, and if they can stop BJ Penn vs Hughes 2 because BJ wasn't responding they should have stopped this fight as well.

Yeah, Thompson was "pounding" Kimbo, but there wasn't much behind the punches. Thompson was more lifting his arm and dropping it. It was one of those instances where the fight could have been called, and more times than not probably would have been, but I actually preferred that they didn't - Kimbo didn't appear to be hurt by the punches. It was more just Kimbo's inexperience and him not knowing how to respond in that situation - he was pinned, had nowhere to move, and this guy was tickling him with fists.

Gary Shaw did everything on this card for future references to other fights. Gary SHaw brought a "hollywood" showing card to CBS, and that is so rediculous because he is bringing in stuff that is not like other promotions and giving the people who dont watch fights a bad view of what it is. I had a few guys at my home and one who had never watched Elite XC or UFC or anything else and we had to explain that UFC was nothing like Elite XC. I feel like they are giving MMA a bad name with the likes of Phil Baroni entrance. If you think that was good for MMA then you are sadly mistaken. If Elite XC is like this everytime I will never watch them again. UFC is ten times better, and Dana actually cares about the fights and fighters. Gary Shaw stopped the fight early on the finger poke just so he could tell the world that they would still be getting there money. I also am betting that Gary Shaw told the ref after the second round of the kimbo fight that if he was losing and Kimbo went on a big flurry of punches to call it imediately. It is sad that Gary Shaw is putting MMA back in the dirt, especially when it was rising so much.

the pedigree of the UFC is much higher. I think that with the exception of Gina Carano, all the other athletes on the card are sub-par and left or was released from the UFC for a reason. To make up for sub-par matches they needed to engage in other marketing activities to increase to the entertainment value of their card. I think Gary Shaw is looking to be the polar opposite of Dana White and his promotions because he can't hang in that game, just fights and none of the other WWE stuff (nitro girls included). And unfortunately there's demand for being the opposite of the norm / status quo

but it's not a good substitute for many reasons, not like how pepsi is to coke. I can easily jump from pepsi to coke no problem, but UFC to Elite is a stretch for many hardcore MMA fans because it ruins the image of what MMA really is. Elite XC's marketing and promotion scheme tends to be more towards WWE/ thunderbox. Gary wants to make some money and he's doing it his way....the only way you can against the Zuffa entity.

Well, not everything has to be either UFC (good) or EliteXC (bad). Some of the fighters I saw in EliteXC could possibly hold their own in the UFC (I'm talking a minority, here), and may actually do well in the WEC. Especially Wilson Reis, if you saw him on the undercard. I don't know that he's ready to challenge for a belt in the WEC or anything, but he's only 23 and showed a lot of promise.

The first half of our comment I totally agree with. Kmbo should not even have been the main event. Call me old school but those should be reserved for title fights and not for guys who have had a few chump fights. MMA has worked hard to get away from the old views on the sport and the promotion of Kimbo take it a step backward IMO.

I don't blame Kimbo, I think he will fight anyone they put in front of him but they are protecting him with his fights (ala Rocky III before Mr. T). Trouble with the EliteXC is there are not a lot to put up with him.

The production was a little too WWE for me but that is how their Showtime things are too. Baroni's intro was embarrassing too. Reminded me of the fighters going to the ring in the old Fight Night video games.

The later half of your comment I can't agree with. I think your giving Shaw a little too much credit for his influence over some professionals that have to be legit to keep their jobs (for example, a DR) but I do think there may have been some paranoia because of being on National TV that some fights were stopped early.

ELITE XC IS CHEAP, I WILL NEVER WATHC ELITE XC AGAIN, KIMBO IS A B*TCH, STICK HIM IN THE CAGE WITH A UFC HEAVYWEIGHT AND WATCH HIM GET WORKED..NOT A DRUNKEN TANK ABBOTT NEITHER. ALL KIMBO CAN OFFER IS 3 MINUTES OF HAYMAKERS AND IF U TAKE HIM DOWN ITS A WRAP. BYE KIMBO..UR LEGACY IS OVER, ITS THE CAGE NOT A BACK YARD. THANK GOD

THE ELITE XC IS TRYNG TO TURN MMA INOT THE WWE..TRUST ME ELITE XC WONT BE AROUND FOR TOO MUCH LONGER.

Baroni's entrance was a joke and gives MMA a bad name. Kimbo is also a joke and will get destroyed when he fight someone legit.

How could you not like Baroni's entrance? He had EVERYTHING! Not only did he have one sexy lady, he had two! His trademark "Saturday Night Fever" strut down to the ring is by far the best strut I've ever seen. And when you think you've seen it all BAM, the ladies tear off his wardrobe like never before. Totally a great entrance, I don't know what you're thinking phogman. Hahah, okay I can't keep it going any longer. The entrance was lame and in very poor taste but still funny as all hell. The best part was he was totally into it. Thats why I find his entrances so damn hilarious, much like Nick Cannon.

That entrance was why I found his KO that much more hilarious. Did you notice that they couldn't get the shirt to rip at first?

It was definitely a spectacle. It was everything that was BAD about boxing and WWE combined. If I would of been someone you had just heard about MMA and was curious enough to watch I would of turned it off by the first 5 minutes. The dancing girls and Baronis corny ass entrance was laughable. What's with all the fighters entourages in the cage. That was a bunch of crap. With the terrible officiating that show probably hurt MMA more than it did any good.

everything else aside, for the record i loved the girls. :)

Who had more tallent john, WCW's Nitro girls or the EliteXC's Elite Xtreme Cats?

Nitro girls all the way. they had that one real hot one that always stood in the middle.

Definitely ELITE XC is a joke. They completely made a mockery of MMA with those useless women prancing around and those absolutely annoying entrances, Baroni is a joke...the best was watching him get his ass kicked after that boring entrance. This league is going to fall. Dana White must be crying right now.

Elite XC may have different marketing strategies, but the officiating was not in their control. Lawler vs Smith was a great fight before it ended. If Kimbo would have been TKO'd in the 2nd like he should have then it would have been alrite. honestly, take away the girls and this is just like any other UFC show

no don't take away the strippers. they're good

I enjoy Kimbo, I think he is a feel good story. I want him to succeed, but by KTFO of the guys he beats. James Thompson although out on his feet could have taken a few more shots. But I see where some think that if he would have taken a few more shots he could have been seriously injured. Kimbo throws some hard haymakers.

I agree, I enjoy Kimbo's story and he seems to have a really good head on his shoulders. Granted I don't like his "posse" and I think they give Kimbo a bad name. If he wants to be successful in life he should get rid of the bad people that surround him. As for the fight, I feel that Kimbo was not answering or trying to block any of those shots by Thompson in the end of the Second round. BJ Penn vs Matt Hughes 2 was very similar. BJ wasn't taking devastating shots but he could not block them so the fight got stopped and rightfully so. Kimbo wasn't stopping any of those shots and they let it go on a lot longer than the Penn-Hughes fight went. And Thompson was out on his feet, but he still should of had a few seconds to gain his composure and maybe clinch onto Kimbo.

i liked seeing ravishing"rick rude" , i mean, phil baroni get bet down...... never did like him in the ufc anyway... he could strut his way to wwe for all i care!!!!!!

robbie lawler's looks alot better since his ufc days.... kimbo won't last against ufc heavyweights...

agree on both points

Lawler was also fighting Scott Smith who is a UFC castoff. I think if you put Lawler in against someone who wasnt over the hill unlike Frank Trigg or Ninja Rua (I'll probably get some unhappy responses to that) you would see if he really has gotten any better.

HOW DARE YOU!!!! NINJA IS THE BEST YOU TUF NOOB! WAR NINJA. There that take care of the unhappy responses hahahha. (just messing around)

Lawler is a lot better now then his UFC days.

He's fought Frank Trigg, Ninja Rua and Scott Smith...can we really say any of those guys are that great?

If you want to see a good Lawler fight check out his fight with Frank Trigg for the Icon title. Bad blood and the ending was awesome!

How about his fight with Nate Diaz that one was epic...the Trigg one though was great with the extra punch on the knockout.

This is Kimbo's 2nd fight!!!!! He just got into the sport what 1 or 2yrs ago! STOP THE HATING! I tell you what NO ONE in any orginization will fight him standing up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its his fourth fight. He fought Ray Mercer, Bo Cantrell, Tank Abbott, and now James Thompson.

I wouldn't count the Mercer fight...lol.

You don't have to stay standing in MMA and there are plenty that would and beat him anyway. It was his third fight and that is exactly why he never should have been in the Main event anyway. It shows that EliteXC don't even think they have enough talent when you have to stick a guy as your draw of his name and not his credentials.

He hasnt even been in it a year total yet.
