The Man who is going to kill MMA

Mixed martial arts has come a long way in this country since the original UFC pay-per-view in November 1993. It has been a non-stop journey uphill to not only get the sport to catch on in mainstream America but to show the legitimacy of the sport and the fighters as truly great athletes. Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva, Rampage Jackson and Forrest Griffin are not only great athletes but epitomize the face of an all-around great fighter. All the blood and sweat and hard work are on the verge of being thrown away. On May 31st, the majority of the country will get to see a man that could not be worse for the sport, Kevin Ferguson better known to fight fans as Kimbo Slice.

How is he going to kill MMA? Every MMA fan allready knows what Kimbo is all about. As soon as he fights someone legit - and gets beat - Kimbo will fade away.

ha agreed phogman

I don't think Kevin Ferguson is going to kill MMA. Hes a great draw for the general public and its going to bring the sport to a new level. Not to mention hes taking the sport serious, hes training with great coaches and they're grooming him well. I don't agree with his fight being the main event over Lawler vs Smith but to say Kimbo is going to kill MMA is a bit much.

Completely agree. Slice also shows the ignorant side of the sport by the way he is marketed. I agree focus on the great athletes and fighters, and don't play to barbarism and antiquated racial stereotypes.

yep. unfortunately i just think that the promoters and organizations are going to milk that cow for all its' worth and reinforce those stereotypes as much as they can. if you notice he hasn't fought anyone relevant or worth while but he's getting more attention than chuck liddell or rampage jackson. the guy hasn't done anything for the sport, in face he's probably even set it back since he's showing America that MMA fighters are barbaric. Kimbo Slice will always be a street fighter and nothing else.

You cant be serious........Kimbo is the real deal. Granted I dont think he s ready for Fedor or Cro Cop but he s just what the sport needs right now, a personality people can relate to. He s no different than Ali or Tyson, If there s anyone thats going to ruin MMA it s Dana White. I still hate the fact he bought Pride, he s already turned the UFC into the WWE and Im sure he s going to screw up Pride. Thank God Kimbo doesn t fight in the UFC, maybe he can make Elite XC one of the bigger names in the MMA world and put Dana on notice................Why do you think Randy Cotoure left UFC.
