Celtics Leave Defense in Boston Once Again

After losing 3 games on the road to the Atlanta Hawks and having their character questioned as that series went to 7 games, most expected the Celtics to learn from their mistakes and come out strong in this game to finally get a road win. But, it was more of the same as the Celtics' defense once again did not show up and they didn't move the ball or take the ball inside near enough.

The Cavs came out with much more energy than the Celtics and after a 4-0 lead by the Celtics, the Cavs poured it on and ran off 14 straight points to make it 14-4 when Doc called his first time out with just under 6 minutes to play in the first. By the end of the first quarter, the Cavs had pushed the lead to 32-13 on 65% shooting.

The Cavs led 52-35 at the half with the Cavs still shooting the lights out at 66%. There was a huge free throw discrepancy at the half as the Cavs shot 10 more free throws than the Celtics. The Cavs finished the game with 9 more free throws than the Celtics. A call that was typical of the way things went all night came in the first quarter when West tripped over his own feet and KG was called for a foul on the play. It was a terrible call and Doc was irate over it and was given a technical. Even the ABC announcers were commenting throughout the game about the bad calls by the officials.

The Celtics showed some life in the second quarter and cut the lead to 12 at one point, but the Cavs always had an answer. They got to the hoop at will and seemed to be open for jumpers every time down. To show how bad the Celtics defense was, on one play, Ilgauskas got the ball just past the free throw line and he drove all the way to the hoop without one Celtic challenging him. As slow as Ilgauskas is, that should never happen.

Ray Allen still struggled with his shot going 4-12 from the field for 10 points, Pierce hit only 3-8 shots for 14 points. Rondo was only 3-10 for 7 points and struggled somewhat, but in the second half he came out more aggressive and took the ball to the basket and that is when the Celtics cut into the lead. KG had 17 points and 9 rebounds. Perk finished with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Posey was big off the bench once again with 11 points and 2 rebounds. Cassell went 0-6 and finished with just 1 point. Powe had 6 points and 2 rebounds. On the other side, Wallace wasn't expected to play but started and set the tone for the game with 9 points and 9 rebounds and a lot of energy to start the game. James again struggled with his shot going 5-16 for 21 points, but he got his teammates involved. Delonte had a great game with 21 points (7-11), 5 rebounds, and 7 assists. Wally had 16 points and Joe Smith had 17.

The Cavs shot 54% from the field while the Celtics shot only 41%. I am just at a loss as to how the Celtics can hold the Cavs to 32% at home and then allow them to shoot 54% on the road. The Celtics also allowed the Cavs to out-rebound them 37-33 and the Cavs turned those rebounds into second chance points. The Cavs wanted this game more and it was obvious from the beginning. The Celtics were never really in this game as they came out with poor energy and simply didn't play defense. They also weren't aggressive going after rebounds, loose balls, or taking the ball to the hoop.

The constants in these road losses have been poor rebounding, failure to play defense, and poor officiating. The next game is Monday night and the Celtics will once again try to get their first road win in the playoffs. Great teams win on the road and there is no logical reason why the Celtics haven't been able to play on the road as they do in the Garden. Hopefully they can remedy that on Monday, but they will need to come out with a better effort than they showed in this one.

This is a PROBLEM Glen needs to let his players know. They need to stop showing up for the first 2 games, then falling flat on the road. They were never into it, and now it seems they are going to be happy with the possibility of a potential split here in the next couple of days. The ''SECOND SEASON'' is about no holds barred and playing with what got you here after 82 games: HARD WORK. This includes on both ends of the floor not just at the FLEET CENTER for 41 games but the other 41 on the road. If you give lack luster your not gonna get perfection. You're going to get lack luster. I just hope they understand that once game four comes around. If they do, they can apply it from here on out... I HOPE.

This is a critical game for them. They have to show they can win on the road. We'll be alright!!!!

Road games are very tough to win in the playoffs. It's going to take an all-out effort to beat the Cavs at home just as it does to beat the Celts on their court. They don't call it home court advantage for nothing. LeBron didn't even show up well in this one and the Cavs still won handily. How bad is it going to be when LeBron gets out of this shooting slump?

yeah, and with the home crowd energizing them, the cavs are going to come out running and carry that momentum into the following games.

0-4 on the road in the postseason is not gonna get u to that trophy when its all said and done.......

It can if you have home court advantage and win all home games.

This will not be happening in Beantown anytime soon!!!!!!!!!

Why would rip hamilton be hoisting an NBA championship trophy in Beantown anyway.

Yeah.......that would be kind of tough, huh? Eastern Conference vs Western Conference? Oh well, I guess this person can dream.

You're right about that but I wouldn't want it going down that road. This is a great regular season road team and that's it so far. It's frustrating as a fan. They've got something to prove in game four.GO CELTS!!!

0-5..Cavs in 6

0-5 Cavs in 6

I can taste it already baby!!!!!!!!!

In my opinion when the Celtics are on the road they stop going inside to Garnett, relying to much on their shooters who are obviously not producing.

0-5......... Cavs in 6

Cavs will lose in Boston unless LeBron comes out of his shooting funk. One thing I wondered about all season was whether the Celts could handle a long playoff grind with these older players and a weak bench. It is definitely showing on the road. If the Cavs steal a game in Boston, this thing could get way more interesting.

Just keep in mind Game 5 of the ECF last year............ Celtics are in trouble, I really wanted to see a Boston and Detroit matchup in the ECF but it looks like its gonna be a rematch from last year

I wouldn't be so quick on that trigger, although if the Celts get stretched out to another 7 game series and make the finals, they will have their hands full. They are lucky to have home court all through the playoffs.

hello sir, been like two weeks since signing on...you know why-lol...C's killing people up here after game 4 and the road woes, sad...actually went to bed at halftime knowing the result would be another road lobotomy...Carlisle good choice...hope you and family are well

Carlisle will be OK. Didn't see anyone better out there at this time. Celts will close it out in Boston, but they may be weary when they hit the Pistons. All is well on the home front. Thanks.

who is this team...I don't recognize them...fatigue, age, chemistry, cassell, no house, no bench, etc....I I don't remember this team...how can you not take 1 single road game and even think of being the shnizza...if they win in 7, as of today; from how Pistons handle themselves on road, Detroit in five as they will win at Garden 1 game easy...as of today's confusion..wtf on the lack of road sack too

Detroit better get Billups back in the lineup. They can beat Orlando without him, but not sure they can handle the Celts without him.

Hasn't Detroit impressed as they have the most road wins so far...Billups will be back and they could be resting after game tonight...Cavs slightly better than Magic true, but Pistons will take care of business on the road always...a key cog in what a champion does...Cleveland should have had better reg. season record as well, I guess that trade was big adjustment...counting "Lebron last night's KG poster dunk" instead of sheep tonight...ha

The team that can take care of business on the road sure has the upper hand. The Pistons have some old wiley vets that have played together for a number of years, just like the Spurs. Could get quite interesting down the stretch in the East. That WAS some dunk by LeBron. The basket could have been a couple of feet higher and he still would have thundered that one down.
