Dominoes Begin to Fall: Maggette and Brand Make Decisions

With free agents able to sign contracts as of midnight tonight, things are starting to fall into place as some key free agents make their decisions.

ESPN is reporting that the Sixers have apparently won the sweepstakes for Elton Brand as he has agreed to accept a five-year deal worth an estimated $82 million to leave the Clippers for the East coast. This moves the Sixers to the top tier of contenders in the East.

With Brand deciding on Philly, the Warriors, who were also in the running for Brand, moved their attention to Corey Maggette and it is reported that Maggette has agreed to an offer from the Golden State Warriors, one of the few teams in the league who could offer him more then the MLE.

The Celtics had been pursuing Maggette along with the Pistons, Magic, Cavs, Spurs and others. With Maggette out of the picture, the Magic agreed to terms with the Warriors' Mickael Pietrus. This leaves James Posey as one of the top free agents yet to decide. The Celtics need to up their offer, or risk losing him and end up on the outside looking in with nothing to show.
