LA Lakers - Orlando Magic, Trade.

The Los Angeles Lakers trade gaurd Maurice Evans and forward Brian Cook to the Orlando Magic for gaurd-forward Trevor Ariza.

Definitely a trade that will benifit both teams. Orlando's front office is doin' it.

With the spot-up-shooting talent of Brian Cook and M.Evans hustle mentality, they should flourish well in Orlando.

G-F Trevor Ariza, if given minutes, should help out on boards and defense for the Lakers. But, he will need to work on that unhealthy free throw percentage(64.1% career).

Ariza is one of the guys I'd like to see get an opportunity to play 30-40 mins a night and see what he's capable of.

Well he will be fighting for minutes with Luke Walton. And with Vladimir Radmanovic becoming an outside threat, I'm sure minutes will be utilized. I'm not a Lakers fan at all, but I would like to see Ariza play 15-20 minutes. I'm sure he would contribute in a positive manner.

I totally agree!
He's really an upgraded mo evans and the lakers got rid of an overpaid brian cook when they found out jordan farmar could shoot and vlad rad stayed healthy.
Depending on matchups though I think Ariza will have 30+ minute games one night, and <10 minute games the next. But phil jackson has been using his bench as if it was a whole new team so thing will definately be interesting.

I'm pretty sure he will get minutes...I would like to see his potential. And yeah, it's a trade that benefits both teams. I still think Orlando got the best of the trade though..

phil's comments seem ambivalent. "we gave up two guys who fit into our system really well..."

That is a ridiculous trade. C'mon buddy.. Brian Cook is as soft as puppy crap and Mo Evans is a hustler, but Trevor Ariza is not worth both of those scrubs...nice try!

Are you kidding me?? You wouldn't take Brian Cook AND Maurice Evans for T.Ariza (who plays 10 minutes/per game) under Stan Van Gundy's system. Brian Cook is a talented mid-range shooter, yes he's soft defensively. But, Orlando is doing just fine on that end. M.Evans is nuts on defense and will always give you 110% hustle. Yes it's a no-name trade. But, the bench is just as effective and important than your starting 5.

Amen.

The Lakers and Magic just swapped dirty laundry for dirty laundry. Man, talk about no name trades

come on people! This would be the "big" trade the Lakes have been talking about. It's funny, after all the months of non-stop Kobe B.S. and this... kind of a let down i'd say. I suppose our friend Kobe has begun to come to his senses and wants to remain a Laker now... but for how long? Some people just love drama and the spotlight... and will do or say anything to remain there. All it would take is a losing streak and special K will be back to cryin'... a real team guy. when Lakers? When?

It'll take some time to see if the trade went well for the Magic, but this was a good trade for the Lakers, but he's going against Walton and Radmonovic. I think all 3 of them have a good chance of getting the 3 spot. Jordan Farmar got to start ahead of Smush Parker at PG the last game of the season and through the playoffs last year. It could take a while for Jackson to choose.

At the time of this trade I was somewhat questioning the Magic's motive. I realize that Trevor was not getting playing time and didn't fit in with the "Run N Gundy" offense but I thought he wasn't given much of a chance. I felt as though the Magic gave up huge talent for some questionable players and felt they could have gotton more for Ariza. After a while of watching the Magic after the trade, I am very pleased with the acquisitions. Mo has earned himself a starting role and has been an extreme boost and Cook when he gets in can throw up the 3 nicely, which fits the offense nicely.
