Reactionary Trades Don't Work

I don't really understand the Kidd trade. I think Mark Cuban doesn't realize that the Dirk-era teams won't win a title. He tried to win now with Dirk and Kidd, but now he's sold his franchise.

In the same breath, I can understand the Shaq trade. They've been very close, and they weren't going to win with their current lineup. The only problem they had was that they faced the worst possible opponent in the first round. Shaq played OK, but the Spurs are just plain better than the Suns. Steve Nash won't be around much longer so they were trying now, and it just didn't work.

Even though I love Shaq I think that his championship days are over. His game is definitely not the same. I think both trades may have been a huge mistake.

You could be right. Although Phoenix didn't have as much to lose. Sure, they probably would have been better off trying to get some younger guys with potential, but you can't fault them for taking a run at it. Dallas screwed their future.

I have mixed emotions about the Suns trade, one of my favorite teams. But lets not lose site of who they played in the first round. The Spurs are going to be hard to beat. They are a well tuned machine and I really don't think any team will beat them. They have team playoff experience, not just individual playoff experience.

very good point. i don't think the risk was as high for the suns. dallas mortgaged their future.
