Rick Carlisle gets another NBA coaching shot, this time with Cuban's Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks have fired Avery Johnson, whom I believe to be a very good coach, and replaced him with NBA journeyman Rick Carlisle. I don't know what Carlisle did to earn the trust of every NBA GM, but this guy keeps getting hired and fired but teams continue to take him back. What is he going to provide that Johnson couldn't? I don't get this hire, I think Cuban is losing it a bit.

That's what pisses me off about the NBA, they just recycle coaches.

Who could the Mavericks have hired that was better? It was time for Avery to go. He had lost the respect of his players and a coach cannot stay in that situation. I'm not sure I am sold on the Carlisle hire either, but there wasn't anyone better out there at the present time.

What about a high profile assistant or something? I don't know, it just gets old after awhile.

That's true, it goes get old, but I guess a team that has been to the finals in the last couple of years and has been in the playoffs doesn't want an unproven commodity to come in and coach. If they were a young team on the rise, then maybe a good assistant would work. Don't know. The carousel of coaches is just as bad in the NFL, too.
