The Greatest Team of our Generation

This after the Spurs beat the Hornets in game 7...

All 4 sports. Every championship team in recent memory. Nobody compares to the Spurs, who started in 1999 and play the same way to this day: with a high basketball IQ and strong defense. A style that might award them their 5th title in 9 years.

The Lakers are just so much better as a team. Winning titles is not all that matters and not all that makes a team great or a player great. Ask amazing players like Karl Malone or Charles Barkley.

y r the lakers "so much better as a team"?

Good... my question is do you honestly think gamblin'-man Charles and baby-daddy Karl are happy about being mentioned as being on great teams as opposed to winning a ring? Seriously.

The Bulls of the 90's are in our generation. You can't say that the Spurs are better than the bulls. I hated them, but damn do I respect them.

You hated the Bulls? I thought everyone loved MJ.

Panthrrr, I'm a Knicks fan. After we took care of the Heat and Pacers (most of the time) Jordan's Bulls would finish us off. He was reveared by Chicago-ans and front runners across the country, but loyal hometown fans hated him. He wasn't a god until he retired - even though he got ALL the calls!

Not everyone. I really liked him up until I met him up in Tahoe a few years ago. He wasn't too nice but that's not to say I don't respect him as a basketball player.

But I'm with you webkid30, I didn't like the Bulls much either.

I didn't like them either OR Jordan...

Winning titles does not make a team great? Okay.........not sure if I buy that one. What do they play for besides the money?

show me the rings........

I was Bulls Fan #1 back then and i will say this the Bulls were great but the Spurs have a mini version of what Russell and the Celts had way beck when.......a real complete team that just keeps winning

Bulls could definitely be lumped into that category and I think they would beat the Celts, Spurs and Lakers in a series now.

I have to agree with FIVERINGS, the BULLS would kill any of the teams today. The problem with the SPURS is their Offense, most of the time you have to wait and hope that someone is going to have a good shooting day. Although for some reason the SPURS all of a sudden make their 3 pointers, just like they did to Denver last year in the first round. Look at this year, hell even Timmy hit a 3 pointer!

Anyway on to my point, the BULLS would have owned the SPURS, hands down. The reason they have won that many rings is because there haven't been that many really good dominant "TEAMS" in the league lately. Compare the number of Elite squads back then with now, then imagine putting the SPURS against teams of old, then imagine putting the BULLS in todays league.

What do you think?

Yea the spurs are deffinitly our nba team of the generation...
Winning championships is what matters though... Every team and every player knows that... When you draft a player you draft what you need to put your team over the top to win a championship. Any sports fan knows if your team does not win the championship it was a unsucessful season..Look at the celts.. all the wins they have... what do you think there goal is... New England,, Even though they wen't 16-0 they said it means nothing without the superbowl.

I don't think there really has been a truly great team in the last twenty years. The Bulls were a team of two men, Jordan and Pippen. The Spurs have always played team ball, though it has usually been boring to watch and/or involving bush league tactics. The Kobe's don't even qualify as a "team".

so when MJ avg.'s 40 a night who the hell was putiin up the other 60................scottie???

Kucoc, Armstron, Rodman, Cartwright, Long and Kerr didn't do anything, man. They just sat on the sidelines and watched MJ and Scottie. Just kidding. They were all an integral part of that team.

don't forget about Hodges, Levingston, Paxson & Ron Harper, those guys were USELESS.. =P' Seriously guys, there isn't even any comparison.

DA BULLS.

And, why may I ask, did I get a thumbs down for that comment? Geeeeze!!!!!!! Did you even read all of it?

nothing like a couple of buds to turn that thumbs down into a thumbs up, Ron Harper was so cool, u r funny kaktkat, gotta set the story straight sometimes here in the Yard, ya digg, ya u digg

Forgot about Harper. Anyway, I think the point has been supported that the Bulls had some pretty good players besides MJ and Scottie. Thanks.

maybe Phil Jackson was meditating them in? HA HA HA! =P'

DA BULLS.

Get him, Annt.

was hopin that ended up right her, once again, KatKat u make me laugh

You know I got your and Five's back. Come on now! Seriously.

i know, its just so funny that sometimes on here we work as a what, what a TEAM.......Together Everyone Acheives More

Achieve

I was thinking the same thing. You know the crew.

Spurs= Team. These guys have been doing this since 1999

yeah, but against who?? =P'

They won titles against the Knicks, Nets, Pistons (who have been in the Eastern Conf. finals for the last six years, and Cleveland. But, more impressive than that is just getting out of the Western Conference all of those years and playing for a title.

Thumbs up, Floridud. Not to sound corny, but it drives me nuts when people say the Spurs are boring. I LOVE watching them execute and just pick other teams apart, especially when it matters (Hornets Game 7). I have a great appreciation for the way they play, even though they don't dunk.

They can adjust to whatever tempo the other team wants to play. That's what makes them so dangerous.

Yes, FIVE! And isn't what the game is about? Adjustments, strategies, execution. Seems some folks have forgotten that. That's why they are so good! But what makes them so good also makes them unappreciated. Go figure.

ya people want "showtime" run n gun, true bball fans like yourself and fiver appreciate what the Spurs r doin

Now its my turn... Ya digg? By the way, what'd you do with that li'l paddle GSWgirl gave ya???

HAH!!!! LOL!!!! I can dig that, ya paddle is around here somewhere

GSWgirl and I just popped up a pair of fuzzy handcuffs for Jason Taylor over on another thread (the one about him getting ousted from DWTS). Check 'em out if you get a moment. It's pretty steamy over there.

THE KICKER,EVERY TEAM ROBERT HORRY--BIG SHOT ROB---HE HAS 7 RINGS AND COUNTING,THE SPURS ARE BUILT FOR PLAYOFF BASKETBALL---AND TIM DUNCAN AND TONY PARKER AND MANU ARE WARRIORS ----THEY WILL WIN!!!!!!

yup, that is CRAZY, big shot BOB must have made deal with devil.. ;)

The most impressive element of the Spurs' success is the fact that they are a small market, small revenue team. In the past 5 years, they've been outspent by teams like the Mavericks, Knicks, and Lakers by literally hundreds of millions of dollars. This year alone, Dallas has a payroll that is 35 million higher than that of San Antonio. The only way they can compete is to be smarter than other teams, and that's what they do best.

Dynasty beacuse Ducan is the greatest player of his generation. 1 player can still make a huge difference
Spurs this year probably better that many think. If Ginobili fit who knows..
