The Real Question Becomes, Where Do the Lakers Go From Here?

The Boston Celtics have their comeback. They likely will be headed to yet another championship, and the title cements the Hall of Fame credentials for Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen. The real question is, what of these Lakers? Perhaps the only thing more amazing than their Game 4 collapse is that they even reached that point in the first place. Either the Lakers are crushed by this loss, or use it as a springboard to bigger and better things as they anticipate the return of Andrew Bynum.

They go on to win games five, six, seven, and then enjoy being the standalone favorites to repeat.

I'll give you credit for staying positive Dew

If the Lakers lose, I'll be the first to eat crow. But until then, I'm going to talk a bunch of smack and believe in Kobe.

I'm still with you Dewey! As long as Kobe is on the Lakers, they are never finished until its official

You keep doing that. Your gonna be disappointed tonight

This series is goin 7 games, probably Celtics winning it but I don't think the Lakers are done yet. Besides David Stern wouldn't possibly let this series be over so quickly. Finally Stern helps me out after years of screwing the teams I want to win.

they're goin right back here in the finals next year..a year of experience and the big guy will make these lakers even more dangerous

I buy that, LA is a young, battle-tested team with boatloads of talent/playoffs ahead...C's have tops, a two year window to win...I just enjoy these two franchises dueling once again, and if you guys get NBA Channel, really good classic LA-BOS from 60's and 80's are on alot now

Kobes pissed and this is his stage..he will bring it till the end!! WIN OR LOSE

Oh, Kobe's pissed! Wow, we better watch out!!!!

Come on. Get off his bandwagon already. We get it your a superfan but Kobe and his Lakers are gonna lay down peacefully and there's not a thing any of them can do about it.

except outplay the celtics and win....

thats what i like to hear....LAKERS in 7 " IT COULD HAPPEN "

hahah yea right terry in your wet dreams...

the NBA FINALS, where "IT COULD HAPPEN" doesn't HAPPEN. ;)

so iam guessing ur a celtics fan right..thats the real bandwagon everyone started likeing them at the beginning of the season when the additions of KG and ray allen were added..they may win. but u cant take away the fact that kobe has worked hard the last 4 years to get back to where he was back n the shaq and kobe backs...so say what u want but he deverses it

I'd like to see AI get one too. Nobody works harder than that little guy.

Yup yor right about that one smith.

THIS IS A LITTLE PREMATURE NO?

LET THE SERIES END BEFORE THE SPECULATION BEGINS. YOU'LL HAVE AN ENTIRE OFFSEASON FOR THIS

i agree with NYsportsGUY but i also have a little tweak in the article...paul pierce hall of fame...ehhhh i dont think so

I second that BirdsFan!!!

You never can say its over, until the fat lady sings. I do not here any singing. Kobe is a true champions and champions find a way to win. The team that wins is not the strongest or fastest,
its the team that thinks they can win

sportts fann5

I hear singing..

as a C's fan, could care less if anyone of them makes the hall, well KG would be an issue...cautious, as game 4 is over, anything can happen starting tomorrow...I dig 3-1, but you have to win 4...point being, some of my fellow C's fans are already celebrating and they get mad when I say, nothing has been accomplished until they win 16th game in playoffs...and yeah, a little premature NYSportsG.

If they lose (and I'm in Dewey's camp that Kobe can still pull this off), nothing has happened to indicate that they won't be right back in the thick of things next year. The WON THE WEST without their big man for the last 3+ months of the season. Sure, they picked up Gasol, but he's not good enough or tough enough to impact the outcome of any game. They have arguably the best coach in the game, the best player on the planet, a budding star in Bynum, solid 3/4 options in Gasol and Odom, and thus far, a pretty talented group of role players. Yes, there will be roster tweaks, but this team will be right back in the Finals again next year. I don't see anyone else in the West beating them.

i love days like these. to see kobe panic at the mic is priceless

I hate that they make the players and coaches do press conferences and on court interviews during the game. Is this about the game? I know the last thing I would want to do is comment on a game I just lost. Then if the say the wrong thing they risk getting fined. Leave them alone.

giving crybabies a forum to cry is part of what sports is all about. I am all for it! I'm looking forward to more Laker whining in the off-season

Ive been really surprised, to the point of anger, that the Lakers havent jumped up and said,"The Celtics are playing like little bitches!" Just like everyone, Boston fans love to say their team is the best. But really? Honestly? You dont mean that. Im not a Lakers fan, but I respect them for how theyve handled this "tumbling" Boston team.

word

word to you snitchin

Tilly - you have to admit - Kobe gave the best soundbite in a while!!!! "We just wet the bed, a nice big one to. One of the ones you cant put a towel over." THAT you have to admit is a classic!!! But I agree - on court, during game interviews - WACK!!

I am a HUGE C's fan, but i am also a law student and i know that anything can happen! But lets all use a little common sense! The C's have (1) more game to win before they become national champs, the Lakers on the other hand have (3) games to win before they become champs! Even if they were to win tonight, they would still have a tough time becoming NBA Champs! The ball is in the C's court and trust me, if I know the C's like i think i do, their going to take it and run with it! Resulting in a huge upset in L.A. tonight at 9 o'clock! You thought thursday night was heart breaking, stay tuned friends!

The Real Answer Becomes, Home

just one more win baby, one more to 17

Not going to happen. The next game the Celtics win will be next season.

lol your one optimistic guy, aint u

Where "Not going to happen" HAPPENS... ;)

Lakers shouldn't even be there. Celtics would have been crushed by the Spurs. Only reason Stern let the Lakers make it was so that Duncan wouldn't crush Garnett's hopes for a championship in another city. Oh and to shut Kobe up. Remember? HE WANTED OUT OF LA AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON. Now who deserves an asterisk. Take your apology and go kiss Donnie Wahlberg on his pale white #$# David Stern. Three franchises in one city that have done HORRIBLE in three different sports for the last 20 years, all have turnaround seasons in the last five years and become the Champions of each of their respective sport. Why? Either because SUPER-rich white people live there and can't stand losing to small markets (i.e. Middle-class/poor people.), or the odds are just that great for the city of Boston. Capitalism knows no limits.

see "10 Reasons Why I HATE Lakers Fans" - There should probably be more than 10?

crushed by Spurs?, that is also a team almost as marketable as LA, as winners of 4 of last 10, and I remember in March, how the Spurs were truthfully shut down by this C's team in that famous second half run in which Spurs O was collapsed/iced in that half...SA-BOS would have been 4-2 Boston as well....can't doubt what we saw on the court all year, Finals setup conspiracy or not

I am so sick of the Celts being known as a "scrappy" team or the "underdogs", we're only that way because we were made that way by the blatant favoritism of the NBA and most American sports journalists. The Celtics are a fantastic team this year and we deserved to win, no we SHOULD have won tonight and its time to lay Kobe and the Lake show down and end this series. But hey at least when we do win on Tues, itll be in Boston.

They dont deserve anything, and neither do the Lakers. Champions do not play inconsistent basketball. They dont need to win at the foul line. They dont need to be playing on their home court to win a big game. The Celtics are not only "underdogs", but they are "scrappy underdogs"

oh, you mean scrappy as in the most dominating in your face shutdown D in quite a long time, the crisp passing, and scoring in blitzes against the "best team LA" per the experts and some on here...give me a break...I'd say C's deserve it by smashing Finals records and playing, say, 3.5 starters against five healthy ones...wish Rondo and Perkins were 100% for 3 of the six, then a sweep...a lot of frustration as this is awesome C's fans as, unlike Pats, the haters have no ammo at all

Phil Jackson needs more naps!

Back to the drawing board :x
